the rose by summerfield

the rose

this was from my foray last weekend around the neighbourhood. on my way to the grocery store near my apartment building, i passed by a quaint bungalow-style house that was surrounded by a flowery garden. the garden was probably about a meter wide all around but the flowering plants were still as robust as if it was the middle of summer. it could be that we had an extended warm weather up until the week before coupled with how the garden was well tended. in the middle of the front garden, was a scrawny looking rose bush with one tall branch and its beautiful flower reaching as high as it could above the other plants. what struck me was the stark pureness of the white rose.

i didn't notice that the camera's exposure compensation was set to +3 which made the lighter colours in the shots all washed out. but i so love that rose i had to process the raw version in order for me to get the details of the rose's petals and that one drop of moisture on it.

another one for the song title challenge. you probably know the bette midler song, yes?
Actually the "off" colors of the other flowers makes this rose stand out all the more. A a happy accident, I'd say!

Beautifully processed to show such magnificent details. I especially love that little drop! And of course I know this song and will probably be singing it all day now
