we were warned... by summerfield

we were warned...

by our province's premier a few weeks ago that we were staring down the barrel of a second lockdown if we don't smarten up and the numbers of new cases of COVID-19 go up again. and indeed during the last three weeks, the numbers were steadily rising, alarmingly higher than it was during the height of the first lockdown. and so toronto and another region west of us would go on a modified lockdown starting monday for 28 days (finishing on december 21).

we were asked not to gather in groups larger than (i think) 25. but how do you enforce that effectively? a homeowner was fined a slap-in-the-wrist $750 for having a gathering of about 100 people. a slightly bigger than average home with 100 people, i would hazard a guess none were wearing masks (or probably a small number) and how can you even practice social or physical distancing? and then there were people from that gathering that had since tested positive for the new corona virus. that's a lot of contact tracing to be done.

i think my member of parliament rep, member of provincial parliament, the mayor and the premier are probably now sick and tired of my emails telling them how this should be done. fine those dissenters who don't wear masks. fine on an individual basis those who are caught attending a large gathering. one resident in my building was saying this is a way for the government to control everybody. another said this is like communism, even though he is off to costco to get as many packs of toilet paper. i'm thinking in the communist countries, no one is probably allowed to hoard. if you have more of the basics than the rest of the population, someone would tell on you. and your toilet paper would be confiscated.

and that was why people were out in full force today, hoarding toilet paper and sanitizers. and doing their Christmas shopping as on monday, malls will be closed, because you can't buy brand name goods at wal-mart (at least the high end brands).

i'm happy and lucky i have enough paints, brushes and canvas for my weekend hobby. i have a pleasant view from my balcony for my photography. and on wednesday, the office will be sending my tiny-on computer in the office and a new monitor so i can work better from home. gheez! i need to buy a new desk. actually, i can continue to use my long dining table as my 'office desk' and what i need to buy is a small dining table where i can peacefully eat my meals, away from all the gizmos.

not a particularly appealing photograph, but at least it's not another view of the skyline!
Sigh, I feel. your frustration and empathize. I'm just staying home. Alone. Safe.

Oh, so not only my tribe is stupid. I've been telling everyone that fining is the method to enforce rules. It has always been.
I grew up in communism. Whoever says fining people is comunism, have no idea what they are talking about. Fining is a democracy measure. It is a measure to make sure that the rights of the others are respected.
Keep up the painting. It prevents you from killing people, because these days it is still illegal.
This world is going crazy.
Another way i thought it would work, when tracing is done and people tested positive say they have been to a party, they should be paying for all the treatment, as they willingly and knowingly ignored the recommendations.

Such sad times we live in, particularly hard now during the festive season. You are blessed to have all you need, including great hobbies.

I love street photography because you can often see something interesting. This photo will be a memento of the times with people wearing masks. Having hobbies is a wonderful thing.

please just stay safe - this image works well

Great street scene! We're being pretty stupid around here as well, seems like the whole world should be doing better during this. Ah, humanity...

I know there is pressure here in Alberta to reinforce another lock down

We've been promised lockdown2 will end Dec 2, but now newspapers,/scientists saying if you meet for Christmas expect to bury your relatives in January- so sensationalist but still falls on deaf ears!

I think I've been in this street! Happy painting I'll email you some of mine I swear I'm going backwards in skill not progressing. X

I like your photo and love your writing as always! Sorry to read that another lockdown is necessary, but unfortunately you are not the only place in the world where this is happening... Stay strong and enjoy your painting!

I hope the lockdown has the desired effect - it seems to be the only way to get numbers to start to fall again. Stay safe. :)

Stay safe and keep painting 💪

It is sad to see such high numbers of Covid cases around the world, sad that the numbers are even higher than they were eight months ago. I feel so lucky living in Australia as we have virtually no cases.

Texas is sure struggling with the second surge. News of the vaccine brings hope though.

Wonderful street scene! Praying this mess goes away soon.

It saddens me that so many people the world over aren't taking this seriously and are therefore blatantly endangering others. We have been so fortunate that covid hasn't taken hold in Western Australia, thanks largely to the actions of our Premier who has stood his ground in the face of arguments from our Federal Government and has insisted that our borders remain closed to states with any community spread. Stay safe Vikki and enjoy your painting 💕

I can imagine how busy To is, getting ready for the next month. It's great to see your street shots and skylines. Never too many. Stay safe, enjoy your painting.

I like the view of the city street with the cars and pedestrians.
November 22nd, 2020
Your street scene is a great documentation of the times. There seems to be very little pedestrian traffic or driving traffic which is a good thing. I don’t understand why people are surprised by the rising numbers. Winter time is always a season for flus and there should be no exception this year Add to that people who blatantly disregard safety measures that have been outlined for everyone and you get a serious case Of increased numbers. Unfortunately people who are trying to do what they are supposed to do are sometimes casualties but I have no sympathy for the people who continue living life exactly how they want and fall ill with the disease.

So glad to know you have enough keeping you busy that it is not a serious issue for you. Hang in there girlfriend!

Well I am sorry to read that things are looking so bad again in Toronto. It seems to be the way almost everywhere. I wish you well as you enter another period of lockdown and hope that with your hobbies, your work set up and your camera, you will stay sane.

I had to go out yesterday and everybody was out for themselves....just like the week before Christmas with No holiday spirit I almost got hit twice by drivers who thought they should be in my lane Right NOW!
I honestly don't know if some people will ever realise if we all don't work together on this it will never go away. Happy we all have our hobbies to assist with our sanity! This is a great tell tale image!

@monikozi - oh, friend, i am with you 100%!!

I can empathize with your writing. It's affected us everywhere, especially during the holiday season. Missing my sister and family today on America's Thanksgiving Day. Despite that, I do like your very colorful, detailed photo. Fav
