let it snow! let it snow! by summerfield

let it snow! let it snow!

yesterday, my building had an emergency power off for a few hours. i was supposed to go to the office for the duration but we were told it's only going to be for an hour, the most an hour and a half. when i looked out the window it was snowing and the roads were wiped out. i thought the trains and buses would be at full capacity and i had no inclination to get exposed to the elements and the virus. but what do you do when you can't even go out (no elevator) to photograph the snow, no internet, and no cooking. well, if you have a canvas, some paints and a few brushes, then follow a tutorial. and since there's no internet, i jotted down the salient points in the tutorial then took a photo of the end of the video. yes, best way to pass the time.

then this afternoon we had our office virtual holiday party. so while i was listening to what's going on, i finished off the thing. i didn't have any success with the pine cones and since the scene is snowy, i covered them with "snow". 😂🤣 i avoided painting a third pine cone by painting a trio of sunken-in-the-snow candy canes instead. i'm a lazy rebel!
Great job

Wow. It took me a few seconds before i realized it is a painting. You know what you did??? You made me want to paint one as well... and i am so not a christmas person....

A beautiful festive painting.

This is lovely, very festive. You should take a photo and make Christmas cards.
Out of interest what size are your paintings?

I think you are very innovative on your own in this situation - as might happen often! Well done for this, Vikki!

Wow, I didn’t realise this was a painting. Well done!

Words escape me! I am so impressed. I like your creative solution to the third pinecone. Amazing blending in the snow, the boards, and the decorations. To borrow a phrase from a friend, ACES,

@salza -thanks, sally. that's the plan but i won't have the Christmas cards this year so maybe for next year. my first 2 projects i used 16x20 stretched canvas. now i'm using 11x14. this is the tutorial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ij3QBBn7Ai0 i would like a critique from you. would appreciate it very much.

@summerfield Vikki, thanks for the link. I'll take a look and get back to you.

@monikozi - go do one, please. please. above, i gave sally the link to the tutorial and as you can see i once again improvised to make the painting mine. i would like to see what you come up with.

Awww... Jane... i love painting with her. And i thought the painting resembled her style, with the old wooden fence. But i haven't noticed this one with the pine branch. Probably i ignored it because of the Christmas theme. I have the sunflower and the blue summer flowers done after her tutorials, which are excellent.
Unfortunately, unlike you, i am quite unable to step aside and make something my own. That is my struggle. And that is what i admire in your paintings: the courage to have a personal imprint or mark.
I like your version with the colored ornaments. And the candies topped with snow are genius.
Thanks for sharing. Maybe I'll try it one day.

@monikozi - i think i'll do a couple more of hers. she's easy to follow, and so carefree, always saying, "whatever you want, whatever you have". i don't like tutorials with a lot of talk and a lot of preaching and a lot of self-advertising. i mean, just get painting!

i do put in my own spin because most of the time i can't do what they were doing and as i said i'm a lazy "artist", don't want to put in more time or effort. if my mind is set that i can't do something, then i can't do it.

i should like to try her "blue Christmas" painting, i should like to know how to paint the bokeh. thanks, friend.

lazy people are the most creative. they have to come up with solutions.
keep up the good work (in German that's Frohes Schaffen - I believe; i just learnt this today, and i hope i got it right)

Well done.

Christmas Card Perfect!

Lazy rebels rule!!
This. Is. Awesome.
December 12th, 2020
Not a lazy rebel at all- making it your own! That's what ARTISTS do! Definitely Christmas card worthy.
