seriously teetering on the brink of self-imploding, i've finally ran out of ideas and props and there's still fourteen more days to go. the shadow looks like a dragon, doesn't it?
we are placed on a longer and stricter lockdown measures starting tomorrow. police now will have the authority to question people and ask them why they're not at home, and if asked, to give your address. our borders are being closed on both east and west with some exemptions.
apparently, people who arrive at our international airport are asked to undergo a COVID-19 test and if they refuse they are fined $800. people of course opt for the fine. if these people came from another country, and free to roam the streets and breaking quarantine, of course there's always the chance of them carrying in the variant virus. i wonder if people would still opt for the fine if it is raised to say $2,000?
@kjarn - i know. they simply thought people would be honest enough or would follow the rules. my co-workers told me once i think like a dictator when i said that big fines should be imposed on those people who break quarantine, those who party without concern, or the no-maskers. the government passed by-laws for these measures and everyone just ignores them. more than a year and authorities still haven't learned a thing - that there would always be rule breakers, so fine them big. i can't easily fork out $800 for a fine, but if it's dire, i can. but a fine of $2,000? why part with that money when all you need do is stay home anyway or have a covid test if you're ordered to.

As for the social issue, i fully understand and agree with you. I remember when you wrote that someone called fining a communist measure. In my mind, it's the same coworker :)
But, on the other hand, i came to an idea (not sure if staying indoors is so healthy for the mind... as it starts rambling) that eith or without lockdown, the virus will do its will and then fade away. Like the spanish flu virus did. It is a matter of a coupke of years. What is helpful about lockdowns, is that it prevents overcrowding hospitals and overworking medical staff.
What I can't understand is why, since the spanish flu, reasearch hasn't been able to come up with a serious virus treatment or a definitive vaccine. Because the flu and the covid vaccines are temporary vaccines. And there is no antiviral treatment either (flu, aids, hpv or covid, you name it). I may be very wrong in my way of thinking so feel free to contradict me.

I love your "dragon" shadow Vikki. I can't believe that people can fly in, refuse a test, pay a fine and are then free to wander around. We have mandatory quarantine for anyone coming in from overseas.
What popped into my head was a police photo. Like the bamboo plant did something wrong and was arrested. You would think I was on quarantine. Things here are little by little returning to pre-pandemic. I get my second vaccine shot tomorrow. I believe they said 1/3 of the USA has been vaccinated. Is Canada vaccinating? Time will tell if the vaccinating does no harm. So little data ..... Stay sane my friend
