two or three years ago, a hawk landed on my balcony. in my surprise, i just stared at it whilst it tried to compose itself i suppose. it was having a hard time with one of its wings for a few seconds. when i realized that i should be taking a photo of it instead of staring at it with my mouth open, i grabbed my purse but as i retrieved my camera, the darn hawk flew away. and since then, whenever i would see a hawk flying around, i would ready my camera but it never got anywhere near my building.
this afternoon, i was preparing for a conference call with a client, when i saw the pigeons flying all over the place but there was one that looked out of place, much bigger and i could almost feel the "swoosh" as it flew by my balcony. i grabbed the camera and went out to check out if my hunch was right, and it was. the hawk glided right in front of me rather gracefully even though the wind was quite strong. then it landed one floor up and two balconies over and it perched there for quite a long time. you can see how strong the wind was in that ruffling breast feather.
i believe it was a broad-winged hawk, which was later confirmed by someone at the office who is a "bird" enthusiast. i have a shot of it looking at me with one of its feet out like it was waving at me but it was a tad blurry. plus this shot gives me a half-half entry for today, no matter that the wall is less than half.
you can bet i was at least 20 minutes late for my conference call. 😜
FAV Wow! I can’t think of a better reason to be 20 minutes late for a conference call! This is a fantastic photo of this hawk and even better that it is a half-and-half!
You could always crop some off the right if you want to make it a perfect half - half
