i found this website called 52frames.com. it has a weekly challenge and for the first week, the challenge is a self-portrait, with an extra challenge of rembrandt lighting. i think i might have pulled it off, after 25 shots, but it's really difficult to do that style of lighting if one has a small nose.
a small ring light was placed on the left, used a black background (found it underneath my paintings). i forgot that i have a reflector that should've gone on the right but what's done is done. i'm not going back on that seat.
The “inverted triangle of light” under your right eye is exactly what that lighting style talks about. So, you don’t have to get back on that seat! Good job, Vikki! 😊
Your self portraits are always beautiful. I remember the Rembrant style challenge I had. I had to do touch up work in Photoshop to get the shadows right. See http://365project.org/randystreat/365/2021-08-25 for my Rembrant selfie b&w. Much grungier.
I love your result.
Yesterday I visited that site too. I read about it on the posting of a colleague here. It' a fascinating site. I loved the topic and I like that i was able to learn about the concept of Rembrandt light. But, as far as I am concerned, that site is the next level. But I might be visiting it for further information.
@delboy207 - yes, i did. but now i regret it. it's not as easy navigating as here on 365. i'd like to pick your brain about it, though. i don't think i know of any other person from here who does 52frames.
@delboy207 - after i posted my photo, i couldn't find it unless i hit 'submit photo'. i don't know how to view if there will be comments. also, i thought it is quite steep at $2.50 per challenge and it doesn't really say what exactly you can get out of that price. i like that you can choose what kind of comments you can get. are people there as polite as here on 365 when giving comments?
That is a lovely self portrait and I think you did very well as I can see the triangle under your eye!
I started the 52 frames thing this week. Submitted a photo, but am not paying. Did not comment yet. 365 seems easier indeed! But maybe that is because I have been on 365 quite some time now...
@myhrhelper - KB, please do. i'd like to know your set up as well as i always struggle with this style. the flattering is only realized after the airbrush function in post (i use ribbet, the offshoot of the former picnik). you're the only professional left around here i think and mike gifford who's super busy with his life. no one to mentor us anymore (you'd think after 11 years i'd be able to mentor myself! 😂 that is a laugh, indeed).
@ingrid01 - kid, i've been in here since jan. 2011 and i still get all confused whenever ross would make any changes! 😂 and this is the easiest place anyone can park their photos to.
Lovely! Lighting is difficult for me. Way back in college, when I took the Stage Lighting class, I didn’t mind going up the ladder with the lights and gels — under someone else’s direction. But I had to admit that it was hard to understand lighting design, when I still didn’t quite understand the basic principles of electricity! Kudos to you for the wonderfully lit images you produce, like this one. A pity, though, you don’t have a bigger schnozz...
