beautiful day it seemed with the sunshining against the backdrop of a stunningly blue sky. but it didn't fool anyone, i hope, because it was -15 celcius. i was wondering why there were no pesky pigeons; usually on days like this, they're perched on balconies and i would have a hard time driving them away especially that i still have no access to mine. i have a better view from my bedroom window and saw this juvenile hawk perched on the balcony of the unit two over from mine. i know the people there go out to work so this young dude was perched there for quite a time, just looking around. i kept taking photos from my bedroom and the shots were a little bit fuzzy as the windows are dirty. then i realized towards the end that i could see it from my living room window. i so wanted it to perch on my balcony railing. here it was preparing to fly off. the next shot is of it in flight but it was so quick the wing was cut off.
after it flew away, that's when the bastard pigeons started to perch on my window ledge and balcony railings. i'm sure the neighbours appreciate my swearing and loud thumpings on the wall and windows.
so this is my official post for the animal segment of the 52 assignments challenge.
@grammyn - in fact i have a photo this morning of our receptionist's dog. we were on a video call and her dog just just insisted on looking in on the call. 😂
Such a beautiful and clear shot. yes, the pigeons are a pest on the roofs and balconies. I have a friend who goes through this all the time. he had a pigeon nest one day on his balcony. he tried to choo the bird away, took also the nest away and the next day the pigeon was back again. he gave up and you can imagine the outcome.
You can get fake hawks and owls (but I have seen pesky pidges roosing on an plastic owl!) What a privilege to have seen him, never mind getting a wonderful photo of him looking cold and ready to pounce.
@30pics4jackiesdiamond - the tenants above me, they put about 8 large owls on their balcony railing before they were removed during the renovation, but i would always see a pigeon or two roosting on top of the owls. i used to use CDs and it worked. but now i'm prepared again for when i get access. i have soup cans that i will put on a string. then i will put part of the string through to my window so when i see them i will pull the string and the cans would rattle. that should teach them. i think they know after some time where they are not welcome. i don't leave anything on my balcony that would attract them; can't say the same thing with the neighbours to my left who would leave leftovers and food containers. i've reported them quite a few times when the rubbish is blown to my side of the divider.
