manual practice by summerfield

manual practice

i've been practicing to shoot in manual mode with my bridge camera; sometimes i get good results and sometimes not so good. this poor rose flower, if it is a live model, would have given up modelling as a career because i've been at it since yesterday afternoon. i've photographed it in different lighting, by the window, in the kitchen, in the living room, out in the hallway, and i get a variety of colour tones which is not its natural colour. tried different settings, too. all i want is to capture its natural colour. so today, for my last attempt, i set the camera on manual. voilà! now, don't be asking me what the settings were because i wouldn't know. i just clickety-click the dials and the buttons and i don't really pay attention to what's going on in the screen.
Amazing . . practice makes perfect. And you did it! It pays to be stubborn or a perfectionist or a good photographer. :)

It worked! It is so beautiful! I love the droplets! I have been doing a lot of playing with the camera settings (In the past everything was auto so I'm learning. When I play with the settings I keep making changes then I don't usually remember what was what.

Yellow roses! My favorite! It is hard to remember what settings do what, but the more you do it, it starts to make sense...I am feeling a bit more capable with that after 2 or 3 months I've had my camera.

Beautiful rose - I can see why you wanted to capture its colour! (Some of the camera settings are available in the 'View Exif Info' option on the right, above)

love your narrative and your shot.malcolm and i went to littleton yesterday and. . . . . . he bought me a camera. remember how i talked about helping justin pick out one for laura and being bummed about it? i have been up in the air about whether or not to get a dslr or a bridge; was thinking bridge since when i got the p&s malcolm would have to reach over my shoulder for like 3 months to turn off the flash because i would forget how to do it. yeah, i know. brain farts. when i feel pressured, my brain just shuts down. so, we have talked about it quite a bit and i was thinking bridge. he bought me the kodak z990. first thing i did was go out last night and completely forget i could change the settings! LOL! boy-oh-boy am i dying to learn this thing. very, very different from my other kodak. malcolm tried to claim old one - UM, no. in my purse. this one does not fit.

@patticake - thank you, patti. i'm just wondering if you guys see the same colour i see. but i can't quite describe this colour yellow, it's not so pale nor too strong.

@catsmeowb - wow, congratulations on your new camera. so was it that they just pretended telling you about a camera for laura when malcolm actually was going to buy it for you? that is so cool. i hate surprises though and my partner has learned it the hard way three years ago. so now no more surprises. and most of the time, i always find out. looking forward to seeing your posts using the new cam!

@summerfield no, justin got that camera for laura. monday we were having coffee and i told mal that i had a dream i had a new camera and he said we were going to littleton and we were going to get one and this time i was not putting it off. Lola was very expensive and was supposed to be birthday, Christmas, all sorts of presents - considering he never buys presents! She was the 5th one he has ever gotten me in all the years we have been together, so the camera now makes 6. He is so supportive of me and says all the time the most important thing to him is for me to be happy. of course, now i am dying of curiosity; what horrible surprise did partner do that went wrong? haha - did one on mal once when he was supposed to be playing cards with his brother years ago and found him with one of my girlfriends. bad scene. we almost did not make it through that one. he says i hit him, bit him and spit at him. i don't think i did. he shouldn't have tried to take my car keys. LOL!
