i found these today inside my old laptop bag. wow! the way our technology has advanced in recent years, it is unbelievable that we were using, and possibly with a tad of dependency, these floppy disks and tape cassettes had been in use and possibly still being used until the beginning of this decade. it seems like this was from another time.
Well hey..I still use casettes in my car cause it is old and does not have a cd player in it...The floppy disks went the way of the dodo bird. Nice reminder of how quickly time flies and how rapidly things change.
I like it...... And your right....... Really funny you said that....I was going through a boat load of 78's ..45's and LP's last week...... Actually played a few.....
Ooh, love your shot, it's a blast from the past! I still have floppy disks, video and music cassette tapes, too. Also a LD (laser disc) of Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet. No way to play them now.
@pamfromcalgary - haha! i still use my cassette tapes of music in my old "mini component" - heck, i should have included that in the photo. thank you, pam.
@danig - thank you, DG. until about 2004 we were still using these floppies. now, we don't even use CD's anymore - we use flash or thumb drives now.
@bkbinthecity - they do, so fast, sometimes we can't even keep up. thank you, brian.
@karenann - i know i have in my boxes in the storage these floppy disks that was called the "five inches" that can hold (hold your breath) 1MB data. eeek! that's just two photos now! thank you, karenann.
@sarasdadandmom - antiques, yes. wonder how much their appraised value would be. thank you, terry.
@lonewolfman - 78's!!! that seems like from another time and space, but i do remember them. and those long playing albums called the 16 something RPM. heck, i'd like to browse that boatload. thank you, mr. wolfman.
@myautofocuslife - don't let go of them, livia. they always come up with converters. am waiting for that tape to CD converter to go on sale. thank you, livia.
@steeler - i remember when i first enrolled in a computer course and the computer was a floor model, meaning it's literally standing on the floor. thank you, howard.
@sunnygreenwood - hang on to them, anne, especially if you have a rare tape of some band or singer or a movie. i remember when we first came here, just for a lark, my sister bought this computer and the disk was as big as a dinner plate. in hindshight i should have just taken it rather than them getting rid of it. thank you, anne.
@leahdelgado - nostalgia and these are not even ten years old! thank you, leah.
@lesip - everything's automated now. in some places around here the staff are drastically reduced by companies to save money. thank you, leslie.
I do still have a cassette tape player - -and cassettes! Wow -- a step back in time - -and yet that step back is just a few years ago. Crazy! Great shot!
@karenann - yes, honey, wait till you get to my age, then you can say that again. and back to technology, that takes about 2 hours to save on those things if you have biggies to save.
@cscecil - i also have my mini-components, those foot-tall thingamajiggs with two removable speakers and they really could be so loud if you wish it to be. both have tape decks and CD players and i bought them in 2003. getting obsolete now. the tapes. and me hahahaha! thank you, CS.
I still use cassettes in my car because it does not have a CD player- and probably never will at this rate, but I am a-o-k with that! And my computer still uses disks- which I actually am glad about because if it ever crashed all my stuff is on the disks so I can just stick them in the next one. Nice shot!
this is a fantastic shot, and really have enjoyed reading the comments - wonderful shot for the theme. also, have been meaning to mention how much i like your new profile photo. sorry for being so late to comment on this shot.
