flying high by summerfield

flying high

weird day weather-wise. morning started out cloudy, then the sky cleared. then by lunch hour it was bright and sunny. by five it was gloomy. by seven it was beautiful again. one thing was constant though: it was hot.

it pays to bring a camera all the time though. partner had gone ahead to the restaurant and i was taking pics of the logo of his car which is blue, when i heard the ever familiar sound of canada geese. so car was promptly snubbed and this became my dark blue posting for today.

update: looking at the original shot, these don't look like canada geese at all. so it's some kind of crazy birds. :-)

thank you for your views and comments. they are much, much appreciated, folks.
Is that their beaks all "lighted up" in the front..yellow? Wow. Very cool. We have that weather down here...overcast, clear, super bright, cloudy, almost going to storm, clear. Haha! Most days...

You got your "blue" alright ... gorgeous with the geese there! Great capture of them all in a row like that. We had a forecast of rain all day ...but nothing. Dry as a bone and hot!!

@espyetta - you know what, i don't think now that they're canada geese. i just moozed i mean zoomed in on the original and they don't look like canada geese. dangit! but i heard their quacks! like the sound of a trumpet. hmmmm...i must be hearing things then....thank you, MB.

@karenann - got the blue but i don't know what birds these are. rain was also in the forecast but didn't see any rain. i heard thunder last night but that was all. partner and i have been wondering, with all these heat, the city hasn't issued yet an order to not water the plants. thank you, karenann.

Don't think those are Canada Geese too dark! It was raining hard here in Barrie this morning! So we received some rain and it's finally a nice evening. Finally have the windows opened. :)

Awesome shot! I like how they are flying in such a neat line. (Lots of people on the streets can't even walk straight! Ack! ) The blue is fabulous. 8)

Ooh! Beautiful blue and lovely capture of the mystery birds!

Gorgeous blue sky! I really like the composition. They might be cormorants. Just a guess!

@olivetreeann - thank you, ann. these guys saved the day as i was all set to use a filler from last weekend: a blue sky with a small piece of cloud.

@russianblue - thank you, kass. yes, zooming in on the original, they're ugly birds, at least canada geese have some kind of personality hahaha.
July 8th, 2012
@russianblue - we're not having any rain here at all. my plants are dying!

@myautofocuslife - thank you, livia. that's true, especially here in toronto, you'll find lots of those. :-)

@alia_801 - thank you, alia.

@beba8162 - you might be right, roberta. but it's a long way for them to come to the city, although i was around at the beaches when i got this photo. thank you.

@danig - thank you, DG. serene yes, unlike what's happening with my head right now.

@cscecil - thank you, CS. wonderful indeed.

@sarasdadandmom - thank you, terry.

what a gorgeous blue! and so what if they are geese or ducks or whatever, this is a stunning shot! you say your head is bothering you? everyone down here is saying the same; lots of headaches, sinus issues, i think it is all the rapid changes in pressure with the cold nights, hot days. really is messing around with those of us who have migraines.

@catsmeowb - thank you, camille. i think these guys are cormorants. they certainly look like it. what threw me off was i heard the tooting sounds canada geese make, i looked up and saw these and i just clicked at the sky. i don't know why they're in the city when they are known to be frequenting wetlands. the restaurant was near the beaches though so that's probably why. i hope these ugly birds don't become like the seagulls, frequently city spots and claiming them as their territory. the vertigo's subsided, and i'm left with a shitty headache. thanks again, my friend.

@summerfield i was thinking of you last night and wondering if you perhaps had picked up an ear infection along the way. remembered you mentioned you were going to a lake and wondered if perhaps you got water in your ears. but many people don't put their heads under the water! me, i jump right in, eyes wide open, look around. 3 boys and they always say, "mom, is the water cold, what is the bottom like' because they know i am the 1st one in the water or the 1st one to jump off something.

@catsmeowb - the only water that can get inside my ears is water from the shower. i didn't go in the lake because i don't like swimming in fresh water unless it's a heavily chlorinated pool. (i am such a fuzzy-wuzzy, am i not? haha!) in fact we didn't even go that near any water. the very first time i had vertigo, the doctor thought i had ear infection, and i did. but the next ones, my ears were alright (according to the doctors) and were attributed to the alignment of my teeth, the hairs inside the ear canal, stress and all other incredible shit they could think of. until one doctor told me this is quite common amoung post-menopausal women and especially asian women. isn't this vertigo racist or what? hahaha! thank you for your concern, camille. you are the sweetest!

Wow...great photo. I love the simplicity of this. Your use of negative space really brings the color out, but at the same time, makes the flight of the birds perfectly composed. Fav for me. I have to agree with Roberta @beba8162. They look to me like cormorants. Its possible they were switching water sources. We usually find them in our bays and beaches, but lately, in the last two years, they've been coming far inland to our rivers and lakes. You may have just caught them at the right moment in search of a new fishing area.
