Chickadee cheer ... or maybe Junco rant ... ;P

I appreciate the sincere and supportive side of the community at 365 but may take a break. I'll see what tomorrow brings. Right now I'm wondering about the commenters who post a fake comment without even opening the pic ... I guess they mean well but I just don't get it.
Yes, I understand. Stay with us, in spite of them!

Pretty birdie!! I love these little guys
November 25th, 2011
If you take a break, I will miss your pictures. I'm not sure what you mean about the fake commenters but please don't let a minority stop you from posting. Pretty shot of this little birdie.

well captured
November 25th, 2011
@mittens thanks marilyn, I appreciate your comments and support. I'm referring to those who comment on the thumbnail without viewing the pic, commenting just for the sake of commenting. there's always been some of that going on but today it was more of those than of those who actually opened the pic to view it ... maybe because it's the American thanksgiving and people are busier than usual.
November 25th, 2011
Like this photo--I admire people who can get good shots of birds. Mine are always blurry. I'm not sure about fake commenters. I hope you continue, even if you take a break for a while. I'm thinking of taking a break after I finish the year on Jan. 2.
November 25th, 2011
I understand what you mean, Anne. How can you tell if someone hasn't opened the picture? It could be because it is Thanksgiving. People may just be very busy today.
I'm hanging on until my year is up in January. After that I might cut back some as it does get draining and time comsuming even though I love it.
November 25th, 2011
Anne, I hope you do not get discouraged, and quit. I think depending on how many people some follow determines the amount of time they spend on this project actually viewing the open photo. I know way back when I started, I was not familair with how you navigate around this site, and I would click on the photo, and then when the photo opened I would comment, but then when I closed it, I would go back to the very beginning of the page again. Then I had to scroll all the way through the photos to find out where I was to continue posting. It took a long time, at least it did for me, because I have always made it a point to comment on everyone's photo. It is a hang-up of mine, but then one day I found out through a discussion thread that if you right click on the photo, you can open it up on a new page, then when you click out, it goes right back to that thumbnail where you were. Wow, what a time saver. There could be many reasons to stop the project, but I think we need to look at what "we" are getting out of it, and why we are doing it. Every so often I go through and stop following people because they never comment on your photo, even though you are faithfully commenting on their post. I invest a lot of time on this site, perhaps more than I should, but I want others to know I enjoy looking at their photos, maybe I do not always post a book like this, but I do look at their photos. And sometimes when you post a comment on someone's photo and ask a question, you never get a response. That tells me they do not read the comments, or perhaps they just don't feel your question is worth answering, or they are too busy to go back and respond. I don't know. I understand it is easy to miss a question once and awhile, but that's why I like to go back and look through my notifications. Sometimes I do not get back in time before they disappear, and then unfortunately I may miss someone's question. So with all that rambling, I hope you stay on, and continue posting.
November 25th, 2011
Great Shot! Good Job! No easy answer to that one - Time will always be a factor--.Sometime your get (View -No comment) (Comment - no view) (View - thin comment) View - Great Comment) All in all it is fun for me and that is the only reason I do it. I would miss you if you take a break!
November 25th, 2011
Anne, I hope you don't stop posting - I love your photos! I don't know what people have said today, and I'm just now getting on the site to post my photo before going to bed - It was a long but happy day celebrating Thanksgiving with my family. I've already mentioned that I'm too tired to view or comment until tomorrow, when I can really take time to make comments on my friends' photos. Please don't get discouraged!
November 25th, 2011
@digitalrn I agree with what you've said and thanks so much for the tip about right clicking to bring the photo up in another window. I didn't know that. After I comment and go back to the main page, I have to scroll way down again to get to the next photo and it takes a long time. I will definitely take you advice.
November 25th, 2011
I am such a newbie on here, Anne. I didn't know that one could even comment the way that you described it. I always opened up someones page just to view the photo better!! I don't know how you can tell when they just comment on the thumbnail. Oh well, I'm learning. I've commented on so many and sometimes NEVER get a comment back on mine, and that's a bit frustrating. And I also realize that my p&s doesn't live up to the great shots on DSLR's. I just try and do my best each time and not worry about the rest. I guess that we need to be doing this for our own "growth and satisfaction." Right? I hope that you do stay . . I love your photos like this cute feathery bird and the lovely colors. You're an inspiration to people like me. Please reconsider. :)
November 25th, 2011
Great shot Anne, it happens to all of us.I hope you stay :)
November 25th, 2011
Anne you take wondeful photos. I hope you don't leave us. Nice detail on the wings feathers.
November 25th, 2011
@digitalrn thanks Rick! This is a huge time commitment so it means a lot that you comment every day, and today you wrote me book - love it! i'm doing this project mostly to document my year --- what's catching my eye, where we're going, etc. Meeting so many wonderful people has been a huge bonus that I wasn't expecting. And of course, I love seeing pics from around the world. I'll carry on, maybe just take a bit of a break.

Btw, if you hold down the control/command key when you click on the thumbnail or person's name, then you get a new tab. That saves you have having to right click. You can run down your list holding down the control/command key and clicking to open up a bunch of new tabs at the same time. It's even faster than right clicking. And you don't lose your spot in your review list in the original tab.
November 25th, 2011
@mittens you can't always tell when someone comments without opening the pic but earlier today I posted a pic and the comments were double the number of views pretty much until i removed the pic this evening. It was a not so pretty, very fat Junco! lol, not a complimentary thumbnail to say the least! No worries, just ranting ... and chilling with a glass of wine since reading my rant in black and white!

Also, check the tip in my comment just above about holding down the command/control key while clicking on the thumbnail or person's name. Even easier than right clicking.
November 25th, 2011
@karenann I hear you karen, i just have a p&s as well, half wanting a bigger camera but not sure I want the weight that goes with it. As for the break, if I stop for a bit, it will just be a little breather. I see a thread in the discussion area that mentions this exact beef. If I had seen that before I posted this chickadee, I might have just vented there and spared my great followers all this negative energy. I think time is the biggest factor for people at this site ... so much time to take the pic, edit it perhaps, post, comment, read and respond to comments ... it all adds up. So I'll make every effort to cut some slack .... ;-)
November 25th, 2011
I love your bird photos....we only have magpies, pigeons, crows....and eagles...but I can never get a photo of them.
So keep sharing your beautiful birds with us, please!
November 25th, 2011
Now, in that respect, I totally agree with you, Anne. Boy! Do I ever feel the same way. It's so much work outside of taking the photos, editing, etc. I love commenting but it eats up time and I stay up late every night. Need to get back on my walking routine, my reading and even more church activities again. A breather is good . . I know that you'll be back, Anne. The holidays make it all that much harder too . . so I may be doing the same. Let's hang it there . . and not be so hard on ourselves! :)
November 25th, 2011
I saw your chubby birdy & thought he was cute! I don't know what you can do about fake commenters except just put up with them I suppose, but be assured I will always properly look at your shots before leaving a comment. I don't think it's polite to do otherwise!

I enjoy your shots as I get to see the area about you & the wildlife that I wouldn't normally see as I live in Cape Town & you are the other side of the world!

I hope you stay with us but if you don't I will miss your photos but understand!
November 25th, 2011
Take your breather - just take your photos and post them every few days for awhile - it is very time consuming and sometimes I let it dictate my day a little too much. I pull back sometimes - especially when I'm traveling. It does give a nice, needed break. =) Hang in there, Anne!
November 25th, 2011
Anne - don't go!!! It seems too many good people are leaving!
I know this project "eats" time and you feel you need to get something out of it, so I understand your sentiments. But don't go!!
Oh, and thanks for the tip re opening tabs - it always takes me an age!
November 25th, 2011
Just tried out your "Tip" and it's BRILLIANT!! Oh, another thing, some photographs are best viewed enlarged for full effect, and I feel a lot can be lost on the viewer if this is not done. (not always, but occasionally)
November 25th, 2011
What lovely details on this little chap! You have so many lovely pictures to share. Hope you feel you can stay with us!
November 25th, 2011
Don't give up Anne, I for one would miss your pictures. I understand what your talking about and have often thought the same thing. However, I am on here to better my skills and have found some wonderful supporting people. They are the ones that have kept me into my second year. This little fellow in the picture , looks like he is posing
November 25th, 2011
Your Chickadee is very pretty (especially viewed large - which I did!) and very like our Great Tits in the UK! Great capture of him.
I'm having similar trouble Anne, and only get about 30 views on average out of 164 followers. I get frustrated - I dont know why they follow me if they never comment or like my work and wish they'd unfollow me to be honest.
And it was you that told me about the control key/new tab - which is a godsend!!
November 25th, 2011
sweet fluffy bright eyed little bird.
I think we've all felt that frustration at times, hang in there and focus on the positive - look at the wonderful supportive comments here. I hope you have lovely weekend
November 25th, 2011
Lovely close-up capture
November 25th, 2011
I love this bit of fluff. My two cents...I try to comment on all of the photos for people that I follow, but when they post three to my one, daily, it gets to be too much. My husband and I each have a mother in her 80s who lives alone and we are very much needed in their lives, plus work, ...you get the picture. I would very much miss your posts and comments, Anne, if you took a break, but this is a personal commitment, so you do whatever it is you need.
November 25th, 2011
A beautiful shot of this little Chickadee. I hope you hang in there Anne. Take a break if you need one but we would like to continue to see your work. Yes, you can tell when someone doesn't really look at the image, but there will always be those types of responses. Sometimes it just takes too long to comment on every response. I try to keep up but let it go when I have to.

Most importantly, we hope you continue to post your images as time allows.
November 25th, 2011
@sunnygreenwood Okay, I know what you are saying now, Anne. I wonder if some people don't know that if you don't click on the photo it doesn't register as a view. Please don't let that bother you too much. I'm sure everyone has the same problem. Also, thank you for the tip about the ctrl button. I will definitely try it. It sure will save some time.
Anyway, I hope you continue to post. I really enjoy your wonderful shots.
November 25th, 2011
Hi Anne! Getting on this thread late, but I hope you won't go. I think Mittens is right, some people may not realize that there is no "view" unless you open the pic. You'd think they'd want to open the pic though....I always do. I won't c omment unless I open the pic and read the entire text area. I do get weeks where I am too busy with a two hour commute and work to do much looking/commenting, but then when I get more time, I go back and catch up. Hope you will cont inue on here and keep posting your great pics!
November 25th, 2011
I was making breakfast, thinking of your post here....and something else hit me. If people get on the site from their smart phones, then they may not open the pic as it is troublesome to do so....like on my Blackberry, to hit the photo and have it open yet again, but it is not bigger than when it was in thumbnail because it is viewed on a small phone screen, then maybe I have put comments without opening people's pics...but that is just because it is so hard from a phone. Usually I look on my phone, but don't comment...just make a note to comment later....but just a thought.
November 25th, 2011
Love your bird Photos they are super cool keep up the good work!
November 25th, 2011
@digitalrn totally agree Rick! Well-said : ) Anne, I feel it's clear by the number of faithful posters you have that you would be sorely missed! I understand if you decide to take a break, but I LOVE your macros, and would miss your interesting back-info oh so much! Like Rick said try and concentrate on the ones you KNOW are loving your photos! Chin up friend, it's November, and we are missing the SUN!!!! : ) xo
November 25th, 2011
Ha ha, P.S. I know I've told you before, but Chickadees are my very favourite, and I love when you post them!!! : )
November 25th, 2011
Anne: I enjoy all your posts! I learn lots from your comments to my posts! I get lots of inspiration from reading the posts from your pictures!

Today's post, chickadee! Like the close up, the colors and markings of this little fella.

Take care -kj
November 25th, 2011
I'm sorry that you're feeling down about this site, Anne I'd be missing your shots if you went on a break. I loved your chubby Junco! Love this guy too!
November 25th, 2011
Oh, please don't leave, Anne! I love your photos and treasure your friendship! I've always made it a point of opening every single photo. I guess not everyone does, but I hardly ever check my stats and I don't really pay attention. I got discouraged a few weeks ago, just because of the time factor. I got too worried about the audience (oh no, I'm posting another seagull! sort of thing). But then I remembered that I am doing this for me and found my joy again.
November 25th, 2011
what a fantastic capture of this tiny little beauty!
November 25th, 2011
For me, I have a tablet I use occasionally and from the tablet I can expand the shot from the thumbnail without leaving the home page..I comment that way too when using the tablet. I dont pay much attention to the number of views on my project, just happy to have the wonderful, kind comments..Anne your shots are always beautiful and well thought out, as are your comments..I look forward to seeing them all. I love the little chickadee, those tiny little birds will land on your hand here..of course if you have bird seed ;) They are difficult to photograph, they flit around so much..great capture!
November 25th, 2011
hi there, love your work and love your comments and love seeing Canada through your eyes. Hope you keep going! xxx
November 25th, 2011
I absolutely love your photos and can't imagine anyone not viewing the whole picture before commenting...don't take any breaks...I would miss your smiling face and your wonderful shots ;-)
November 25th, 2011
Anne - you and I have been following each other for a while now and I always enjoy your pics and reading your reaction to mine. I think I know what your talking about, and it may be annoying, but if you don't care for a particular response just ignore it and focus on the ones you enjoy. I hope you keep going and find a comfortable zone to remain in 365 :-)
November 25th, 2011
Great close-up of this guy. Very interesting that people are not actually looking at the photo, just the thumbnail. A couple of times I've wondered why I have more comments than views, I guess that's what is going on~ sigh!
November 26th, 2011
I think your photos are enchanting! This little bird's claws don't look like they could hold him up.
November 26th, 2011
I need to say one more thing regarding your comments. I didn't know about the notifications tab. Laurie just showed it to me. And regarding Rick's comments, I also go back to the top of the page after I look at a picture and have to scrolll down too so he just gave me a good tip. This just takes a while to learn the ropes. But I understand if you are weary. I will truly miss your photos and friendship. Laurie just also told me to tell you,,,"Don't quit."
November 26th, 2011
Anne, please don't take a break! I always look forward to your pics and your humor!!! I've learned lots from your pics! You are one of my favorite 365ers! Chickadees are awesome little birds! They have the most wonderful singing voices. Awesome close-up of this little guy! :0)
November 26th, 2011
I really enjoy your photos Anne. I respect whatever decision you make, but hope you stay on . :-)
November 26th, 2011
@digitalrn hi rick I really appreciate your comment.. and Ideas and tips... some of it I had no idea and a being short on time i sometimes don't open the photo because i lose my place as well. Thanks I personally will try them.
Anne as I scanned through sounds like you are going to stay.. thank god because I love your photos... In a word gorgeous and fun. love birds. :-)
November 27th, 2011
Lovely detail on this little guy! Hope you stick around.
November 28th, 2011
I love my Juncos. Nice catch here. I like that little whispy feather sticking up on the back.
November 29th, 2011
Anne, this is closer than I've ever gotten to these little guys. Wonderful shot. I truely enjoy looking at your pictures and reading your comments. Sometimes I get behind on commenting due to a variety of reasons, but please know I always look forward to your project.
December 4th, 2011
nice shot, anne. somebody ruffled your feathers (no pun intended)? i don't understand what fake commenters mean but i hope you continue your project.
