This Ruffed Grouse was standing on the shoulder of the road as I drove by. When I stopped it proceeded to cross the road not far from me. They have quite a distinctive strut! I posted a clip of it here: https://youtu.be/9SFYyaSjE-A. It only took a few seconds but it seemed a life time while I was watching, hoping no cars would come along.
