The Work Of A Pileated Woodpecker

The two pileateds that you saw off and on all winter did this number on a tree leaning out over the water. There is another similar tree trunk at the opposite end of the property. They were perfect hiding spots for the two special golden eggs the Easter Bunny brought for our granddaughters.

I had no idea that woodpeckers could do that kind of hollowing out of a tree!! That's just incredible! But it does make a wonderful hiding place for eggs. How long did it take the granddaughters to find them?

It would be fun if they nested in the tree.

It is amazing the work they can do on a tree. Were doing that to one of the power poles over at the Corps of Engineers park and they finally had to wrap the pole in aluminum to deter him.

Aren't these trees amazing with the artwork of the pileated woodpeckers?
I saw a few trees like this on our last hike, simply cool!

That is amazing they can do that much damage to the tree. I often hear them when out on my walk and see the holes but never like this.
