Usually award dinners are very boring affairs but this night was very different. My family was so happy to be at this dinner watching my brother get "Hero Of The Year Award". On Valentine's day my brother, a NYC Detective, was shot in a NYC subway trying to bring in a man wanted for the brutal beating of a young girl. Because of his quick action no commuters were hurt in the subway that day. Because of the risks he takes everyday, people in NYC are safer. For once a good guy is recognized and thanked for a job that not many people would be wiling to do. Thankfully he was there to receive his award, so glad it did not have to be a posthumous award. So very proud of him.
