Paradise lost by susale

Paradise lost

That´s what Tunisia stands for me now.

I am still upset about the terrorist act at beach resort in Sousse, Tunisia last friday that killed almost 40 innocent tourists, most of them from UK. I felt a need to create this image out of one of my holiday pics of Tunisia. This pic however is not taken in Sousse - sure I had plenty of pics that were taken at the same beach where the shooting happened but I felt that would have been too real somehow and besides the golden beach of Sousse has seen enough red blood already - but instead of Monastir, a lovely town south of Sousse.

I found the terrorist attack so upsetting cos I spent my winter holiday in Tunisia just last spring, just right there in Port au Kantoui Sousse which turned into a center of bloodbath one week ago friday. I got home from my winter holiday less than one week before the terrorist attack to Barbro museum in Tunis and now this happened - and this time at the same beach I was just 4 months ago! Unbelievable.

I can´t imagine anything more horrendous than getting shot while sunbathing and relaxing in the beach with no care in the world. The thought never even crossed my mind when I walked the same beach last spring, I didn't feel scared of anything. In fact I fell in love with the place and was planning to return as soon as possible. I guess it´s safe to say that I will never return Tunisia now. Such a shame!

My thoughts and prayers are with all those who lost loved ones cos of this sensless act of violence.

To see what Tunisia once was to me : http://365project.org/susale/365/2015-04-05
Beautiful photo. I hate hearing about the terrorist attack.

Awesome edit, such a sad bad news story

A beautiful photograph, and a heartfelt condemnation of the violence. What is wrong with the human species?

OH Suse..this was such a terrible event. So close to your heart of course! My son has told me what a beautiful place this is and it breaks my heart to think of this tragedy! Thank you for sharing this image and your hear felt story. Peace to you my dear!

Oh my gosh -- I had no idea when I saw your other photo earlier that it was of Tunisia. It was unnerving and horrifying just reading about it. I cannot imagine the depth of your feelings having been there so recently. Well processed to convey the surreal nature of what happened there.

@eyesmile @taffy Yes it felt personal to me cos I could see that place in my mind so vivid and of course I thought of the people there; the stuff of our hotel. This has to have affected them cos we were staying very close to Riu Imperal Marbaha, I can see the hotel in some of the pics I have taken from our hotel balcony and our hotel beach was actually next to Royal Kenz´so yeah we were very close to that spot. It is so sad cos Tunisia was very lovely place and this will do so much harm for the country´s turist industry and affect many people´s livelyhood there, I am sad about that too cos it´s really not their fault, you can´t condemn the whole nation for the acts of one individual, the routs of terrorism goes much deeper and that is what we should fight against. Thank you ladies for your personal comments and I wish you both happy 4th of July, may you celebrate it in peace!

@nanderson Thank you sweet lady, yes I remember and I also remembered not being scared for myself in any way. I know it´s different to travel into arabic countries as an Finn compared to American, Finland is politically neutral afterall so we are not high in any list of singled out targets but of course you can always be in a wrong place at the wrong time. Talk to you soon!

@joemuli So true Joey, so true....breaks my heart to think about it. Happy 4th of July to you and to your fellow American´s, I wish you as a nation can celebrate in peace!

@tristansmum I know Stephanie, I wonder that sometimes myself too. Thank you for your comment, I don´t really see this beautiful myself, I see wave of blood but I guess it´s my way to process this thing through my art.

A powerful image Suse. I am finding it difficult to get this whole tragic and barbaric episode out of my head. As I said to my husband so many of those who died were our age. Desperately sad for so many families; a young girl about to get married, a man who died saving his wife, people of all generations. One poor lady lost her son, her father and her brother - how do you ever go on after that? I pray something can be done to fight this evil but I think it will be with us for many years to come.

Perfect tribute shot. *hugs*

My heart goes out to you Suse. I won't print the words that I feel about those cockroaches ISIS. In the name of their religion they do these terrorist acts? They are evil delusional murderers. I hope we blast the hell out of them soon.
July 5th, 2015
@joysfocus Yes it is horrible that this kind of violence is justified by religion, personally it´s hard for me to understand how anyone would want to be part of a religion that endorses such violence and how can these people believe they are right about it when everyone else in the world can see they are so wrong. It is impossible to find any sympathy for these people, that is true

@paulaw Indeed, it is the sad stories that break my heart ....the elderly couple on a holiday to recover after husband´s heart surgery, on a holiday which was bought by family members´-how bad they must feel now! That mother & boy who lost 3 loved ones and especially the 16 year old boy who is forced to live with the traumas seeing them got killed. I don´t think this is something that can never fully put behind or something someone fully recovers. I fear that you are right, I think these kind of happenings are something that we are forced read about many times more, I don´t think the world is going to change and terrorism is hard to stop all together cos there´s always missguided people who don´t think for themselves and there for are easy target for brainwash by these terrorism organisations

@alia_801 Thank you!

Horrible act of violence, so terrible sad for the innocent. I can understand you are so upset, especially having been there making it so much more personal. You've created a powerful image, Suse!
July 5th, 2015
Heartbreaking. Thank you for sharing.
July 5th, 2015
Some of the places I've been to in Israel have had the same tragedy. To say it is a tragic event seems almost too simplistic because the evil that causes it is far from simple. Your picture and the way you've processed it really captures the feelings on several levels. Seems trite and sort of frivolous to say well done- but it is.

lovely tribute.

Great tribute to those who lost their life in this horrendous attack. And it seems that these attacks keep repeating themselves for no particular reason other than scaring the world.
July 6th, 2015
@sangwann Yeah these things scare the public very much and indeed that is what they are aiming for but the polical reasons behind it go much deeper and are more complex than that. Thank you for your comment
July 6th, 2015
@olivetreeann Thank you, your feedback means a lot. I agree, terrorism is far but simple and sadly it looks like it´s here to stay and there´s really not much to do, we can´t fight it with violence, that would only evoke more violence :(
July 6th, 2015
A stunning tribute Suse. Perfect.
July 7th, 2015
I was thinking about how close you are to this event. How could we build the love and understanding among every human.
July 8th, 2015
Beautiful tribute...so sad.

You have an enviable ability to pour your feelings into your work.

I do not understand the mentality that kills others in the name of its beliefs. Such wholesale slaughter is dreadful and incomprehensible.
July 12th, 2015
@dulciknit Thank you for the nice compliment, I do put a lot of myself into my work so maybe it indeed shows. I feel the same way, it´s so hard to understand how anyone could do such thing and in their tewisted mind believe they are doing a work of their God, what kind of God would endorse this kind of violence!
