Today here in Finland we remember those who are no longer with us by lighting a candle on their graves. I have lost my share of loved ones and I have lighted more candles over the years than I can remember.
Tonight I visited graveyards and I just wanted to capture the beauty of hundreds and hundreds of candles burning bringing soft light into the darkness but it was surprisingly hard to achieve.
i wish we had this, we dont really have halloween here either but seeing eveyones photos on here... i dont like horror, especially after real life horror. i will light a candle ...
I think you've captured the beauty of the candlelight in this picture and I like the editing you've gone with. Your country's practice of lighting candles in memory is a nice one. I wish that were practiced here in the States as well.
Agree with Kali, I don't even know which day is Halloween in NZ. But it is beautiful thought to put up a candle to remember those who passed and be grateful being alive.
Thanks for the information on this, so Halloween is rather a quiet day in Finland then? In Germany we dont do it at all .... we take care of the graves today on 1.11.
@annika82 All Hallow´is quiet day but we have adopted the American Halloween too as far as partying goes, there are always those who have a Halloween party and most years I do too. This year however was a quiet for me
This is such a meaningful tradition. I don't like all the gory stuff people do with Halloween here- it's very negative. I'm not crazy about the over the top "trick or treating" decorations that are also becoming popular but it is what it is. I wish our All Hallow's Eve was more like this. Lovely shot.
