Solar Eclipse from Mid Wales (clockwise from top left)
I've just had an amazing morning. The conditions for seeing the eclipse were perfect. Sorry Jane@chimfa in 'sunny' Spain.
I went off to a remote part of the Elan Valley to where I had read on the website that there would be rangers with telescopes. I thought there would be a huge number of people but in fact there were about 6 of us in addition to the rangers. I never expected to be able to take a photo, I just hoped they would have special glasses. Well they did have the glasses which made the whole event fantastic but also they let me borrow a filter to put in front of my lens. I'm surprised how well the pictures turned out considering I was holding the camera in one hand, AND focusing, while holding the filter over the lens with the other hand. (Must get a tripod!)
When I looked through one of the telescopes I could see sunspots and flares.
At one point it went quite dark, very quiet and still (the birds stopped singing) and very, very cold. It was quite weird.
What an amazing experience. I'll be on a high for the rest of the day.
@sallya@beryl Thank you both. I was so excited!! Who would have believed that Mid Wales would have the best weather for the eclipse. I'll never moan about the rain again.
Sadly we missed all the fun because there were clouds. Beautiful, sunny since mid-morning. We did catch the total eclipse in 1999 when staying in Gloucestershire. Next chance 2026.
My word Sue you have done well....a filter is the think I can see...I took one this morning between the clouds but nothing like this! Great for the grandchildren to say gran was there! Dint we always wish we had made more effort & you did!
