Martha's Home Again by susiemc

Martha's Home Again

In July 2015 we gave Martha a camera when she graduated from medical school. Since then she and I took photos together whenever we could, including a 4 day photography course in Pembrokeshire in May last year. Unfortunately in November last year her flat was broken into while she was away on holiday in Bali. The only thing that was taken was her laptop. It was old and virtually worthless in monetary terms but all of her photos were on it ...........and she hadn't backed them up!! She learned a very hard lesson. Anyhow we are now revisiting all the places that we went together and took pictures.
Here's Martha with Llynn Brianne in the background. We're not actually very far from home here.
A beautiful capture of Martha against the most wonderful scene of the lake and the surrounds . So sorry to hear of the thoughtless theft of Martha's laptop -- but nice that you both can recapture some of the scenes and sights stored as photos on the stolen laptop ! But a bonus to having Martha home again so you can revisit the sights together again !

Lovely photo, shame about not having back up on her computer.

This is a beautiful scene! How terrible to have all of her photos stolen -- but very nice that you can at least recreate some of them!

A lovely shot of both Martha and the scenery. I really must back up my photos before we go away :)

Lovely photo of Martha. How sad that she lost all her photos. I back mine up in Google Albums on the cloud.

What a shame Martha lost her photographs. This is a beautiful picture to treasure

Very beautiful landscape and also very good of Martha--your daughter? I like the moody sky and subtle colors.

So sad about the photos. That happened to my sister when she was young and had traveled around England and Europe. Her apartment in New York was broken into and the photos taken (in those days prints--they were in a bag with the camera, which was what the thieves wanted). I have most of my photos backed up, but I need to do an even better job of this. I would feel safer with them backed up in two or three different places.

@beryl Thank you Beryl. We're on a real mission to continue to revisit those places we took photos together - Greenwich next weekend the Pembrokeshire in May.

@gijsje Thank you bep. It's a man made reservoir but it's still a beautiful place.

@brennieb Thank you Brennie. I love to go there. It's very remote and very peaceful.

@carole_sandford Thank you Carole. It's beautiful considering it's man made,

@bigmxx Thank you Michelle, you're very kind.

@happysnaps Thank you Valerie. I hadn't asked Martha to pose much on this trip so she was quite cooperative.

@onewing Thanks Babs. She really had no excuse as she has an external hard drive and she certainly has enough knowledge to store them in the ether. She learned her lesson the hard way.

@dsp2 Thanks Dinah. We're having fun recreating them.

@merrelyn Thank you Merrelyn. It's a bit of a wake-up call for us all.

@foxes37 Thank you Lis. She has absolutely no excuse. She has an external hard drive and she certainly knows how to back them up on the cloud. She learned her lesson and I don't think she'll make the same mistake again. Anyhow we're having fun revisiting those places where we took photos together.

@snowy Thank you Diana. Martha certainly learned her lesson.

@deborahsimmerman Thank you Deborah. Yes, Martha's our youngest daughter. She's 26 and a doctor in London. She doesn't get to come home often, although she's been home twice in quick succession because she had a few days leave to use up, and she doesn't have much time to take photos when she's working. I think she's learned her lesson (the hard way!) about backing up her photos.

You'll notice that my children (4 of them) and grandchildren (6 of them) appear fairly regularly on 365. None of them live close by but I use 365 as a visual diary so whenever they visit or we visit them I post pictures of them.

@susiemc

Sue,

How admirable that your daughter is a doctor at the age of only 26. You must be so proud.

I'm enjoying your 365 project and like it being used as a visual diary. That's how I like to use it too.

Beautiful scenery and daughter, I had backed mine pictures up on an external hard drive that is now not working but still have a lot of them on memory cards.

@deborahsimmerman Thank you Deborah, yes we are very proud. Actually she's 27 next week. She went to medical school when she was 19 and studied for 6 years before getting her medical degree. She is now coming to the end of her second year of being a 'qualified' doctor but of course the training goes on for many years. She's loving every minute of it but has no idea in which area of medicine she wants to specialise.

@oldjosh Thank you Margaret. I too have mine backed up on an external hard drive (which I hope is still working) but I also keep all my memory cards. When one is full I buy another. Martha and Chris used to think I was mad to do this but I don't think either of them think that any more, especially Martha.
