I don't think this agapanthus flower will open now. It's been trying for quite a while but it's just too cold now . The pot is in the back corner of the porch to protect it from the worst of the weather but it's still cold.
Very late….i planned my agapanthus in the garden, I’m wondering now if I should protect the roots from the frost….advice please Sue. It’s one of those blue & white ones.
@happypat Hi Pat. According to Gardener Chris there are two types of Agapanthus (in this country anyway), the fairly hardy ones and the not quite so hardy ones. Our not quite so hardy ones (we have about 6 or 8) are in pots and they get moved to a sheltered spot for the winter, in the porch or against the wall of the house and the hardy ones are in the ground. Chris suggests that as yours is in the ground you pile lots of mulch on top of it (leaves or straw or compost or a mixture) and that should protect it. Good luck.
@busylady We have 6 or 8 in pots, Judith so it would be a bit of a faff to wrap them all in fleece but they’re all in sheltered spots now for the winter. The plants should be fine it’s just the flowers that won’t open now. I think it’s just too late.
@susiemc I’m sure mine is just an ordinary one but it’s two colours so I did wonder. Someone in 365 bought one like mine but I can’t remember who. I shall take my chance & just mulch it as suggested. Thank you very much.
