This is Spud, a very special young duck who spends his time between us and our neighbours.
His story begins when he was brought to us by some children who had found him after he had fallen down a drain. He was put with a mother who had 13 other ducklings. Luckily he was accepted, probably because one more in such a large brood would go unnoticed.
After a few weeks, it became apparent that Spud had a wing deformity, known as Angel Wing, a condition where the wing joint deforms and twists.
I have to admit that Spud was perhaps the ugliest of ducklings I have ever seen, but he is growing into a very handsome young man, who hopefully will spend many a year to come in ours and the neighbours garden.
