Our village church, is the burial place of Saint Hybald who died around 690.
When the previous church dating from the C13th was rebuilt in 1866, a stone coffin was discovered beneath the floor. This was believed to be that of St Hybald and contained his bones. It was reburied beneath the floor.
During the rebuild, it was the intention to retain the tower and shore it up while the nave was completely rebuilt. Unfortunately this didn’t work and the tower collapsed in 1875.
There wasn’t the money to rebuild the tower and the bells were hung in a wooden shed next to the west end of the nave. It wasn’t until 1958 that money was available to rebuild the tower
@fbailey Oh I am going to sound so stupid here!! I fiddled around with the filters on the lap top until I got something I quite liked, I think its a mixture of sauna & burlesque, I faffed that much I'm not really sure what I did in the end! Then I spend ages deciding which edit I like best when in reality they all look pretty much the same!
Thank you @peadar Not many people have! Little is known about him and there are only 4 churches dedicated to him, one of which is been converted to residential use.
@suzanne234 Apparently he is most well known for being a follower of someone else. Hardly a ringing endorsement, is it? He must have done something to clear all the hurdles, even accepting these might have been set a little lower in the 7th century. Mmmm....
Vert nice, processing adds to the mood.
Just returned from a trip to England and looked around a lot of old Churches. Even to a tour around the Lincoln Cathedral which is up around your neck the woods:))
Lovely shot and such an interesting story!. I'd never even heard of St Hybald either! There are some quite obscure saints with odd stories attached to them end it's always interesting to hear.
You learn so much on 365! I always like to read a narrative to go with the picture. Like the others, I like your processing, which gives the shot a timeless feel to it. And I agree, faffing is fun!
Such an interesting piece of history and a beautiful church. Churches are one of my favourite subjects (I'm hoping to get out to one tonight) so obviously I love this and will give it a bog ole fav :)
