He stood quietly by the wall for an hour. Then he tenderly placed his hand over the name of his lost brother before walking away.
6:45am 7 April 2012
Went to take photographs of the sunrise reflecting into the Vietnam Memorial. Only two words were spoken. I asked "Brother?" and he replied "Brother." As I set up the tripod facing the other direction, I waited while a park ranger on his way to work picked up tiny bits of debris along the wall. And then there was nothing but still and quiet as the sun rose another day on the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Because they are so many living relatives of the troops whose names appear on the Vietnam Memorial, I've never been there that there wasn't somebody there. I didn't expect to see someone at 6:30 in the morning. I waited till he began walking away to take any photos in his direction. I assumed anybody that came at dawn was looking to have some time alone. It brought tears to my eyes too.
Sheila, I had to comment again! Showed this picture to my boys and husband and really got chocked up! Your words and photo are beautiful! God bless the USA!
I love how you shot this.

Congrats Sheila!
