Dragonfly Diet by swguevin

Dragonfly Diet

photo 146
We watch dragonflies flying around the pond and they are beautiful. But what DO dragonflies eat?

Dragonflies are excellent hunters and mainly eat other insects.

A fun fact here - A dragonfly can eat food equal to its own weight in about 30 minutes.

It's summer here, so I'm thinking I might go on a dragonfly ice cream diet!! Hope I look this good at the end of summer!!

Note: Evidently this is a Damselfly. All the other eating rules still apply! Thanks for your kindness in viewing and FAV's enough to let her go on a PP eating binge! Also seems like it was a Damselfly/Dragonfly festival on the PP and she is honored to have been invited to the party!

The most amazing part of this isn't the photo. It is that I could actually see him eating this bug through the lens and then he just stayed there and stared at me while moving his jaws up and down as though he thought he might eat me for dessert... or maybe just the camera lens. He was a monster and I was mesmerized!!

@maggiemae Truly amazing monster and watching him eat was the highlight of my afternoon walk!

Very cool shot. Well done. I wonder if they get "food baby" bellies with those skinny bodies when they eat that much. :)

@chrissym I loved your dragonfly/damselfly information. I will be sure and correctly label my future bug photos!!

@marlboromaam I'm sure this hungry thing, just thought it could find something else to eat there! Thanks for the heads up. I would never have thought to look for it on the PP when I found it missing!! :)

Fantastic detail! Yes, I learned the different last year when I saw someone called it a damselfly. I called them all dragonflies until then.
