SUE this is such a FAB.....amazing clouds LOVE the windmill... but weather looks so treating i am surprised that the windmill is so still
posted August 7th, 2011
@hasli The clouds were a build up from last night's amazing thunderstorms but there was absolutely no wind this morning. Just that brooding sky. Thanks so much for the fav.

Sweet HDR, Miss :D
posted August 8th, 2011
This is beautiful, what HDR program do you use?
posted August 8th, 2011
Great shot

@frameit It's a 3 shot at 2 stops in photomatix...super easy to use and you can get a free trial. Sometimes you just look at the confusion of light and know you have to have some help:)
posted August 8th, 2011
I tried using HDR today on my lily shot and it just didn't work, I still used the three bracketed exposure shots but ended up blending them using the blend modes in Layers in Photoshop Elements 8
posted August 8th, 2011
@frameit Mmm I think hdr only really works well when you have those extreme highlights and shadows. Download the freebee version of photomatix...then go out and look for an extreme lighting situation...I'm allowed to say this because it's the only bit of post processing that I can handle. (sigh)

@brizmako Taa muchly kind sir

@swilde That's it? Where's the cheek? Where's the thinly-veiled but chuckle-worthy backhander? ;o) I think I may do an HDR week for the start of September. My today pic (water thing) is HDR using Sam's little FinePix's bracketing function, but it's not quite the same with JPEG (rather than RAW of course).

@brizmako Learn how the other half lives. For many years I've only had PSE 7 (which I can't use anyway) It won't read the D90 Raw (NEF) files... Only in recent minutes have I discovered that I can shove the D90 NEFs through Picassa or photomatix and convert them to TIFs so that PSE 7 can read them. Also pls remember that I cut my digital teeth very recently and the D40X doesn't have a bracketting button...so I did ém all manually... Right now I'm living in lux land.
posted August 8th, 2011
@brizmako Oh and BTW...Mind your manners junior...I'm a Ms...not a Miss...
posted August 8th, 2011
@swilde Surely there's a patch or something you can d/l to make the PSE receive your NEFs? That's a fairly big oversight for Adobe - Nikon users are the most prolific DSLR owners in the world.

The good thing about Photomatix, too, is that it reads all RAW files from all flavours of camera and you can choose to output to 16-bit TIFF...unfortunately, PS can't do 16-bit TIFFS either...so, yeah...

Wow very nice!

the sky is fabulous Sue, We don't see windmills like this in the UK.

I'm impressed with your post processing skills. I don't have the patience (or time) to experiment much with post processing, other than a few tweaks with auto levels, contrast and lighting and B/W conversions. I can't even master cloning. I shoot in jpeg too , which some people think is a bit naughty . Who'd have thought I worked in IT !!!

Thanks for all your supportive comments, they are very much appreciated.

i only recently discovered that my camera has aeb (automatic exposure bracketing) so i only have to hold the shutter down once to take 3 consecutive shots!!! fortunately my camera does have exposure bracketing so that i can take 3 shots in a row at different exposures.
love your hdr images. and like you i too struggle with pse ... it's not that intuitive unlike lightroom which is where i edit most all my shots. this image reminds me so much of the western states... amazing the similarities in the iconography of our two countries...
