Testing

And let this be a lesson for all young players. Always double check everything. The Black Rapid cross body strap that I sling this camera on let go. The camera fell (50mm 1.4 Nikor $800+) lens first onto the brickwork. This is actually a lesson to always leave the lens hood on. Lens hood took the full brunt of the fall and didn't even crack. This is a test shot using a 105 mm Sigma macro lens because it hadn't had a fright today.

Have a good day everyone!

OH ..my ..gosh! I thought of that once...what if my cheap strap I got with the camera unthreaded from the plastic holder things and let the camera drop? I don't have a hood....those are those BIG plastic things that jut out around the lens, right? I may need to get one. What else are they good for? do they help with glare and such? The photo came out good, so I guess it passed the test!

Ouch! How did it get lose? Was the screw not secured or was it a strap issue?
Glad the lens and camera seem allright

@espyetta Lens hoods are eally good for controlling flares. This is the second time I've heard of one physically protecting a camera. We should all behave and use them all the time. Thanks for stopping by.

@noaceyet The screw was tight but the catch bit had worked its way off the lock position, so it came away from the screw. Thanks for your comments.

I nearly lost mine off my Black Rapid strap the other day, too. Luckily I hadn't quite let go of it when the clip came free and I held it against my thigh with my pinkie finger until I could grab it up properly. Heart was racing a fancy beat there, for sure. Lens hood or a filter at least, I dented my 50mm on the metro doors and had to straighten it out with pliers, I was mortified as I couldn't find the right pliers and couldn't get a filter on for weeks.
