Reflections on a Cornish controversy

These luxury apartments are part of a new housing development which has been built in recent years around the marina in Falmouth. A mixture of apartments and some very nice upmarket houses.

The problem is that it is a gated community, a sort of private village on the edge of the town. Most of the properties are second homes and holiday lets owned by wealthy up country folk. To be frank most of the local Cornish people couldn't afford these very expensive properties and feel very resentful that the marina has been closed off and they are no longer allowed access to this interesting and attractive part of their town.

I must admit, I feel a little uncomfortable with the whole concept of these gated private communities. It all seems a bit too elitist and pretentious for me....... It seems we are not all in it together after all.

I'm sure the owners feel very safe and secure in their own private little piece of Cornwall..... but with all these high fences and locks and gates, security patrols, CCTV cameras and all the rest of the town looking in on them with a measure of contempt and hostility, I feel they are living in a prison of their own making.
Same happens in Maine

Some numptys really know how to alienate them selves from the real world and the human race.

I like your composition and the reflections in this shot. What you describe is nothing new in the USA.

Grat shot. Very well said. Everywhere we put walls. Openness is a thing of the past.

Oh! While a nice photo... it's sad. Leave it up to money and greed to mess up a perfectly wonderful thing...

You are absolutely right! Nice looking but the area needs to open to the general public. Fav.
