The old post office - Tintagel

This is the back view from the garden of this ancient iconic building.

You learn something new everyday. In this building there is a long thin room off the main bedroom which is a sort of galley overlooking the main living room. It is the place where children and unmarried ladies used to sleep. I was commonly refereed to as "the shelf". This is apparently where the expression about ageing unmarried ladies "being left on the shelf" comes from.

After 22 day away from 365 Project..... I'm on a mission to catch up. :)
A great old building, and an interesting piece of information.

A smile for your explanation on aging unmarried ladies. Love the stonework textures, tones and wavy looking roof
