Since we retired, we have joined the National Trust and have been visiting many of Cornwall's stately homes and manor houses.
It really does bring home the fact that the huge gulf between the wealth of the ruling elite and the relative poverty of the common man, is not a new thing. It has always been there...... and things have changed very little from our feudal past.
I was very interested to discover recently that, following the battle of Waterloo, Napoleon was held prisoner on a British ship out at sea. Apparently they didn't dare bring him ashore as the British people actually adored him and viewed him as a hero of working classes. It was feared that bringing him ashore could very well spark an English revolution..........
Not that I would encourage anybody to think that a revolution is long overdue..... No not me...... As if I would....... :)
