I'm sure many people wonder why I am quite so keen on 35mm film cameras when I have a perfectly good digital camera that is so much less bother.
Part of it is that I just love the old cameras and I love the way they look and feel. I have been collecting them for about year now. most have come from charity shops or ebay where you can pick them up for next to nothing.
In their day these were very expensive state of the art cameras. They were well built and most of them are still in perfect working order which is suprising particularly as some of them are more than 50 years old.
I also love the way some of the older models are completely manual including manual focusing. This is a great learning experience which develops skills that will be useful for your digital photography. I would recommend that anybody who has never tried film give it a go as it is great fun.
I have collected fourteen 35mm SLR film cameras so far and they all have their own particular charm...... and as you can see there seems to be room for another one in my collection. (Isn't there always). I will keep my eyes open around the charity shops when I'm out today.
If you are interested, you can see some of the photos I have taken with them by searching for the analogapril-15 tag.
Very cool! My favourite was always winding the film back after it was full with the film cameras - for my Dad's Zenith, there was a little crank that you had to turn and feel how the film slides back into the cartridge. Anticipation rising!
cool shot. my hubby has a saying with bikes that the perfect number of bikes is always one more than you have. my guess is that you feel that about cameras!
@mrsbee The Olympus OM2n. A great little camera....... David Bailey's camera of choice for a while. Some of his mpst iconic celebrity portraits were taken using one of these. Go on, dig it out and put some film in it. It's great fun. :)
