The Lost Gardens of Heligan are so vast and there is so much to see, that people used to literally get lost in them. They now give each visitor a detailed map and a compass on entry in the hope that they will eventually find their way back to civilisation.
There is a rumour that a school trip from Goran once went in and never emerged again..... It is said that the children went feral and took to the trees in the jungle area. They are now known as the Lost Tribe of Heligan and with the wind in the right direction, you can hear them chanting in the night and on a clear evening you can catch glimpses of their camp fires flickering in the distance.
