To the North of St. Austell is an area where the china clay mining industry has left lots of huge slag heaps (Sky tips as they are known) including this one which is known as the white pyramid.
It has been there so long, it is now considered an iconic landmark and ironically, when a developer wanted to remove it to make way for housing, the local residents fought a long and bitter campaign to preserve this relic of the towns industrial past.
