A very British Sport

When the British summer finally arrives, many men (and some women) can't wait to put on white clothing and stand in a field throwing a red ball at three sticks in the ground a short distance away. Someone else tries their best to defend these sticks with a piece of willow as if their life depends on them staying upright. They occasionally run a very short distance to an identical set sticks for a bit of a rest I assume. I can't say I have ever been a fan of the game.

It strikes me as very odd that diverse countries like India, Australia, New Zealand, The West Indies and South Africa can all get quite so passionate and obsessive about it....... and people can become superstars and be revered and held in such high esteem for being good at throwing balls at sticks but each to his own.

I'm more of a football person myself, but even I can't understand why so many English people will berate the England team as being unimaginative and lack lustre with a manager who is utterly incompetent and has no idea what he is doing tactically, whilst at the same time believing wholeheartedly that a miracle will happen and the England team will shock the world by winning the 2016 European championship against all the odds.

Sport is a funny thing I find. :)
ahhh see I love cricket - football ( I am assuming soccer ) confounds me - they can play for 90 minutes and at the end have no score - what's the point hahahaha

I am so unfamiliar with cricket (as I haven't lived in any of the countries you mention!), so perhaps that's why I am always intrigued and fascinated to see it or hear about it! I do like sports in general although I agree it can be a funny thing...

A very astute observation, yes it is a very funny game. And you never know. Sometimes even small clubs ready for relegation can come back and win the championship.

@annied I agree on the tie in soccer thing....! How can it end in a tie??? isn't the point of sports to win? On another note, I'm quite partial to American football!! :) Billy, having no idea how this game is played...your description made me giggle!!

@dianen I prefer baseball :) Rugby League I watch sporadically but American Football is another sport that confounds me - too many players and it stops and starts every few minutes hahahaha

One reason I love (am addicted to) 365 is the learning experience it provides. Cricket is entirely new to me so I will stick with my love of basketball.
