Homeless guy and his guardian angel (5/100)

I didn't notice the words in the post office window until I saw this pic on the PC, but yes, in big cities, homeless people are a part of every day...BTW, I've no idea what the muzzle is all about, because his dog is a total smoocher! :-)

Good street capture and yes they are a part of everyday. I work for a non profit that helps the homeless in their searches for housing and employment. They have many hurdles to cross.

I don't understand blow people like this are in this position! Is it purely they can't get a job? We have unemployment benefit here which isn't the answer because people rely on it. Very few homeless though!

You and I are on the same page when it come to the homeless...I have done a few shots with Sydney's homeless over the last few week's and it's a crying shame that in 2012 we still have people on the street. Fav

Powerful image Tabbycat. Love black and white for street shots.

You can't get benefit with no fixed address.

@maggiemae @miley89 "You can't get benefit with no fixed address" Contrary to popular belief, that's actually not true - well not in Australia anyway! Centre;ink actually has a program designed to help homeless people get benefits. They are allowed to use their local Centrelink office as their address...but it's amazing how many people, both homeless and not that will try to tell you otherwise. Having attempted to help many homeless people both in Sydney and Melbourne, I am convinced that most of them are homeless by choice. Aussies are a generous bunch too, you would be amazed at how lucrative begging in this country is! I've heard stories of people who aren't homeless at all, but who beg, acting homeless because they make more TAX FREE! money doing that than they were making in their jobs....

@veg66 As I said in my previous comment, a lot of homeless folks are homeless by choice, so don't feel too bad for them. Thanks for the fave.

@pearlgirl Ain't that the truth! I would most certainly be dead now if not for the love of my cats and dogs over the years :-)

@ggg Indeed he is! There are plenty of folk living in houses that don't have a single soul to talk to or to love them on a daily basis...

@tabbycat I have to agree with you, Tabbycat, why don't they get up off their bums and cleanup the street they are sitting in! Work for something! It always brings rewards!

Sure you're entitled to it. "Depending on your circumstances". It's not always easy asking for help though.

Very powerful image..love it!

@miley89 You're very right, some peope have great difficulting asking for help, but I have tried to help many of them (they didn't even have to ask!) ans they have been remarkably resistant to receiving that help. Go figure! I guess I can see the appeal of total freedom and zero responsibility!

Great shot, that fellow looks like he would clean up nice, but god only knows what his story is. He kind of looks like Sting.

Good street shot. Seeing your comment about not being able to receive benefits without having an address, I see the deeper meaning in your shot.

@newbie Yeah, he's a good-looking guy for sure~! He's often sitting in various locations in Elizabeth street, so I might ask him a little about himself next time I see him....

@alia_801 @jojo2009 @houdiniem Thank you, friends~!

@tabbycat I think we must be meeting different homeless people...I've just finished doing a job for the City of Sydney on the homeless situation over winter...and none of the people I talked to wanted to be homeless. That's just the people I have meet on this job. :)

@veg66 I'm sure there are many different homeless stories, all I know is that when I've tried to help some of them with long term solutions (I even offered for them to use my mailing address for Centrelink, make phonecalls for them etc) they were super resistant to any kind of change or help to get off the streets. Some even told me that they actually preferred life on the street to the daily grind of work and the world of responsibility. As a free spirit myself, I can understand that. One guy that I took to McDonalds for a meal said that if I gave him cash, he'd more likely spend it on heroin than food. Of course I gave him nothing but the meal we ate together but I'm sure there are many more that are just stuck in a rut and don't know where to begin. They all just seem to be seeking the short term solution of a $$ handout, which is doing nothing but helping them survive one more day. I do think that mental illness is a big issue though....I'm curious as to the CoS's idea of fixing the situation...?

@tabbycat From what I can tell a hot meal and a bed for the night is all they can offer with Government funding slashed....it's like going around in a circle.
posted May 28th, 2012
@veg66 Sure fucking is! "government funding" What a crock! The govt has more money than God - they just pretend they don't. It's the biggest scam in history! So you're saying that it's up to people like me to take action then...?
posted May 28th, 2012
@tabbycat You and me...not found of the Government myself...( and that go's for all of the them.) if people can help when they can like you having a meal with someone less fortunate.then more power to you. :)

@veg66 Hmmmm....you may have just given me a super cool idea. I'll keep you posted! :-)
