Today's ONS4 subject was UrbanEx -- exploring the areas of urban life that aren't usually seen or are off limits. While not off-limits, this is an area of the city that is off the tourist routes unless someone is interested in seeing the site of the Haymarket Massacre of 1886. What started as a peaceful labor demonstration for an 8-hour workday ended when someone threw a bomb into the crowd, killing demonstrators and (including police shots) policemen. This is the L stop on the Green Line closest to the memorial statue that marks the area -- mostly industrial, just off a major north-south highway. B&W seemed the best way to capture the feel of the area.
@danielwsc Thanks! There's a building nearby where we have quarterly meetings and I've been trying to photograph the memorial. I just can't get it right.
Terrific photo, with its sharp lighting, strong lines and contrasts. It's very dramatic with your B&W treatment! I've tried to photograph the memorial as well, with no luck.
I didn't know this place or the story, and learned from your telling . . . the photo is fabulous with the diagonal line the ideal composition for what you are trying to convey. I agree that b&w is best for this.
@busylady @danitech @olivetreeann @kerristephens Thanks for viewing -- and for noting the choice of b&w.
