I decided today was the day for an attitude adjustment! I've been missing Beaver Island and all the great photo ops from bugs, frogs, snakes, beach, sunset, lighthouses, boats, and so on. And I've been looking at work as a barrier to photography. But, that has to end. I live in one of the greatest cities in the world, with amazing scenes, and I'm lucky to have a job and career that includes working with wonderful colleagues and students. So, time to look on the bright side. I also need exercise since my job involves a lot of sitting and computer time. So, today is the first day of a new attitude. I hopped a bus right after work and headed down to the loop, planning a walk that would start with Buckingham Fountain, head through Grant Park to Millennium Park, and end with getting light trails with an iconic building behind it which is my get pushed challenge this week. All good, if only I'd checked my battery! I was able to take several shots before it went out, challenged by a wine-tasting festival being set up so my only access point was into the light with a very bright sun occasionally going behind clouds as it set. I took the photos, continued the walk using my cell phone camera instead (haven't looked at those yet), and caught a bus home in time for actual sunset to practice multiple exposures from the rooftop for the Technique Challenge this week ( http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2013-09-04). All in under 90 minutes!
NICE JOB YOU! Great shot. New leaf. Oddly, I have been able to comment more today and yesterday BECAUSE I was grading--Anything to get a distraction after a disaster essay. :) I'm with you on the getting out, though. My new patio furniture is about as far as I've gotten.
Beautiful shot! Love the light and the way you captured the water. Good for you on the new attitude! This shot definitely reflects your decision to embrace your world.
Great idea Taffy your positive attitude wiil help you get over missing Beaver Island - a bit! This is a beautiful shot - great light and the water looks wonderful! What a shame your battery died! It will be interesting to see what your phone captured! I have been impressed with mine the last couple of days. Fav by the way!
It looks so dramatic with both the water and the light behind it. I'm all for positive attitudes and whilst life can be a bit of a downer at times, there is some many wonderful things to see and find to make ones day much happier. And I always look at my health and feel very blessed that it is good as some people have terrible health and that must be horrible.
So, you've pressed the 'reset' button, hey? Good for you! This photo is for sure very worthwile looking at and totally worth the busride and walk :) gorgeous that sky above the fountain!
A beautiful and dramatic image...movie poster quality. Fav! Good for you on making more time for your photography! I rarely manage more than 10 minutes a day!
Really wonderful shot of Buckingham Fountain. Love the way the light glints on the top water spray. You managed to give a new, dramatic and interesting look to s subject that is commonly photographed.
This is just stunning!!I went to a workshop in Chicago a few years ago..and never expected to fall in love because I am not a city girl. But I did!It is a gorgeous City! You have captured that iconic fountain so beautifully.
@archaeofrog Thanks Katie. I smiled when you said that because if you could have seen me walking the full perimeter of the park to try to get in to take a shot from the other side, you'd know I can't take credit for choosing to shoot into the light!
@maggiemae I realized that I'd overdone it a bit -- so decided that even though I'd taken photos today, I'd work with those from yesterday as I liked them better! Thanks for the kind words!
Saw this on the Pop Page and thought "wow"!! You caught a combination of fun stuff in this photo: the silhouettes, the sunset, and the water splashes! Magnificently done!
@padlock Thanks PL! It's really helped to do that attitude adjustment -- I'm being more proactive in finding some time to get out and photograph as part of just living here. Just had to let go of the end to easy nature shots!
You'd think that the battery incident was a "bad" thing, but in the long run I think it did you "good". This is a great shot, which you would probably never have thought of capturing under your original plan. Love the way the water turned out!
@jodimuli Thank you so much!! I'm at the airport with a delayed flight and just saw your note. I'm guessing yours are on there -- I can guess which ones! This makes the delay totally worth it!! THANKS!!
@amandal No kidding!! I'm just flying (figuratively and, I hope, eventually literally! Great to be up there together -- it's so reinforcing to keep going as I get into the home stretch of year 1. Your selfies are amazing this year and I did love this one! So clever!
Sounds like a great walk and a good idea - exercise just makes you feel better.
