Also fact: it's sort of grimy, no matter how you look at it.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Chicago's transportation system, we have one of the best in the world in terms of access: subways that connect to buses that connect to trains and so forth. From my house, I can walk three blocks and be anywhere in the city or suburbs (or world re airports which also connect) via public transportation. The "L" is part of the Chicago Transit Authority system and unlike some of the beautiful newer subway systems (e.g., the Bart, the Washington D.C. area), most of our system is the original layout and stations with a little updating here and there. The oldest sections go back to 1892! It's called the "L," short for "elevated" but as you can see, much of it is underground. This was taken at the Monroe Street Blue Line station, snapped today after picking up parking stickers. In Friday afternoon rush hour, the best way to get around is on the L as the roads are awful. I'd hoped to take a light trail shot for my get-pushed challenge but after two trains, I gave up. I've edited in Snapseed, just for fun and practice.
The light trails substitute shot, another subway one, is in my extras/challenges album: http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2013-09-06
This is an amazing Black and white image...Really love the pov.I love your city but have never taken public transportation there.I am going to enjoy your images of Chicago!
This is excellent! And though I've been to Chicago several times, I've only ever used taxis to get around. Your history is really interesting! I love using public transportation when I'm traveling. It beats the stress of driving in a strange city - especially one the size of Chicago!
Maybe your city could teach my city (which is really small in comparison) who to do a transport system. If I drive to work, I can do it in 20 mins. If I catch public transport, it takes 1 hour and 15 mins!!
Fav! Love this effect, there´s really something very intriguing about how it feel like it´s drawing me in and that b&w is really great here, very good job with editing!
What a shame you couldn't get any light trails, but what a great idea to try there. For the rush hour there aren't many people on the platform which seems to go on forever! Just love the shot focussing on the bandy woman, and love the processing. Fav.
Fantastic!!! Love the leading lines and your b&w processing. Fav.
I have only been to Chicago once but was quite impressed with the L. I was shocked by the hospitality. The driver actually heard me and my sister talking about how we didn't know what train to take. He took the time to ask where we were going and then reopened the doors to let us on his train! That would have never happened in NYC!!
My only travel experience in Chicago has been in connection with O'Hare (Oh Nightmare!). My first time through there it was smooth sailing, but the second time- not so smooth. A delayed, delayed, delayed and so on flight which eventually got cancelled had me put up in a hotel overnight with no luggage! That had already gone on to my destination. Thankfully the hotel was across the street from a Target! I picked up everything I needed for the night had room service for dinner. Cool! Anyway that has nothing to do with your photo! I like that the part where the people are is less gritty than the part where the trains come- you would expect that. It's a great shot for perspective and the candidness of the folks waiting for their train makes you a part of the picture and what's happening. Great job! fav
@egad THanks so much for your kind comment on the photo and on my city! Yes, we are very much a world class city, but with all that you'd except from midwestern values. I'm glad you've had good experience here.
@olivetreeann Ah...ORD can be a nightmare, but the trick is to get them to get your hotel quickly and then grab the L downtown for a photo walk in the city! Blue line takes you right to the loop for under $5.00. I used to hate having to connect in Chicago, but now living here, it's pretty convenient. Thanks for the kind words on my subway shot and the fav too!
Fav here too, Taffy - very nicely done - it DOES look gritty and I agree with what others have said about how you captured the moment. I DO feel as if I am there.
@taffy Just so you know, it that had happened to me while on 365, I would have called you up! But that was long before I ever heard of 365. It was still a pretty good adventure!
@elaine55 Thanks for all your viewing and commenting today Elaine! And the fav's, etc. I really appreciate it -- and no worries re keeping up as I really enjoy your album! It all balances out when we get time to catch up. I edited this one on iPad -- I can't edit on iPhone as it's just too small to see what I'm doing. Usually I edit on the computer, but snapseed is growing on me -- it has some great options.
@espyetta I just saw the notes from you and Hope -- amazing!! I had never expected this. It feels so wonderful and affirming! Thank you so much for the fav!
Fabulous B&W image - brilliant processing!! I haven't tried Snapseed - must give it a go if this is anything to go by!! Congrats on TT - Wow you have had a fantastic week while I have been away Taffy!! I am getting to know your shots straight away - you have a wonderful style!! Fav by the way!!

My challenge to you is ''Spontaneous street portrait''.
And option 2 will be ''Hands''!
