Squirrel shot with my DSLR -- on my bucket list and checked off today! After spending most of the morning and early afternoon grading papers, I was running late to get to the college in time for a meeting and class. I didn't have time to change lenses from shooting flowers so just grabbed the camera with the 105 macro on it. As I walked out my front door, there was a girl feeding a squirrel who was eating potato chips out of her hand. They both cooperated for a quick photo shoot and ta-da, here is the result. It was the right lens, and the right timing and even the right light as I didn't even change settings.
Another NYC shot from Central Park for bww in my extras album: http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2013-10-16

Thanks Kim, Junko, and Adam! I've seen so many cute squirrels on the site and really wanted to take a closeup. I know they are rodents, but they really can be so personable.
@lightchaser Thanks Alan! You're right -- on a level of difficulty 1 - 10, mine was pretty easy -- walking out the front door and there he was, ready to pose and there she was, ready to reward him for posing for me! And all were strangers til we 'met' for the shoot!
You are shooting in NYC? Double bonus points to you. I got to shoot in Central Park one time and spent the whole time shooting flowers. Now that I can't travel, I think I will regret that even more.
What luck Taffy! Sometimes the gods are with you and you just happen to have the right lens and settings at that exact moment! It happened here! Great capture!
@lightchaser I was in NYC for just one night, but had about 6 photos I wanted to post so am spreading them out this week. Central Park was really amazing as a photo site!
Oh sweetness!! I think that I posted NYC photos for a couple weeks in 2 albums. I just couldn't help myself. I was there for 4 days...2 full days in the city.
Marvelous and endearing! I did chuckle at the "bucket list" statement... Squirrels provide my only "photos of interest" when I'm back in California! In the park, they're quite tame...we feed them peanuts, and they'll even stand on my foot waiting for a handout!
@tonygig Thanks os much for the fav, Tony! I really appreciate it! @skipt07 Thanks Skip -- I was so lucky to be so close and to have a good lens on the camera. My 105 does so well with detail but it's not one I usually am carrying around.
Wow, this is amazing. One of the reason my next lens will have some more millimeter of tele. I totally agree with you. Everything in here is perfect. Light, pose and focus too! fav

Great detail.

@synke Thanks for the Fav, Synke! And I totally agree -- a macro/tele is a fantastic addition to a camera kit. I use mine a ton.
