Adlar Planetarium on a Cold Winter's Night by taffy

Adlar Planetarium on a Cold Winter's Night

I've just created a new part of my Year 2 plan. On the last 3 days of the month, I'm allowing myself to go back through the month's photos and choose ones I would have wanted to post, but they came in second or third to other choices from the day. This is an HDR of three shots, f8, at 1/25, 1/30, and 1/40 handheld. I'm on the south side looking up toward the planetarium's main building along the wall of the education center. It's an unusual view but to me, the most interesting one of the building. This is the more typical view - http://www.scitechantiques.com/Adler/Adler_Planetarium-Chicago.jpg
Major work project due for an all day meeting Saturday so only minimal time for 365 fun.

You've captured an other-worldly moment. Rich, precise, yet eerie. Very nice.
January 30th, 2014
That's fantastic
January 30th, 2014
great lines, very cool
January 30th, 2014
Lovely shot, I like the lines leading to the dome
January 30th, 2014
I really like the juxtaposition of the rounded dome, the straight but angled walls, and the sharp angles of the pyramid like structure behind, and in the foreground.
January 30th, 2014
Awesome photograph!
January 30th, 2014
This is lovely architestural shot, Every slope of the parts help to guide the eyes to the dome. Love it.
January 30th, 2014
What great composition, tones and exposure!
January 30th, 2014
Excellent pov!!
January 30th, 2014
It looks like an ancient monument, so imposing and majestic! You have definitely found a much more interesting POV to photograph than the standard head-on views.
January 30th, 2014
very i interesting it could be a lot of different objects and structures that is so well done.
January 30th, 2014
wonderful shapes and tones in this shot. love the architecture
January 30th, 2014
This view is so much more interesting, great HDR effect
January 30th, 2014
Great shot! It's nice to get an out-of-the-ordinary view and perspective
January 30th, 2014
This building has fabulous lines and you've used them really well.
January 30th, 2014
Jo

January 30th, 2014
I love the POV!!!
January 30th, 2014
Wow that is pretty cool.
January 30th, 2014
I'm amazed at your ability to "see" architecture and cityscapes! I would never likely notice much about this, other than to say, "cool building"...
January 30th, 2014
Love this,
January 30th, 2014
What a fascinating looking place!
January 30th, 2014
great capture!
January 30th, 2014
A fantastic capture! It's very interesting to look a great pov. Welldone!
January 30th, 2014
Fantastic shot, Taffy. I love the architecture of this building.
January 30th, 2014
Such an interesting pov - it could be a building from a futuristic film or from an ancient city. As always you capture architecture superbly.

January 30th, 2014
Beautiful and mysterious. So much more dramatic and interesting than the "typical view" photo.
January 30th, 2014
Wonderful image and brilliant pov! It looks like a building from another world in a science fiction film! Great atmosphere! A Fav of course!
January 30th, 2014
Oh I like this, great looking building and ímpressive HDR
January 30th, 2014
Very clever
January 30th, 2014
I was going to write The same comment as Linda's @happysnap
To me it suggested a structure from a science fiction movie or a sort of Maya or Aztec pyramid. Very interesting.
January 30th, 2014
So many different textures all blending so well.
January 30th, 2014
Love this. Looks like it's come from a sci fi movie. Your HDR processing is always so well done.
January 30th, 2014
Awesome pov and capture.
January 30th, 2014
What a terrific looking building. It almost looks like Russian architecture. I enjoyed your description too.
January 30th, 2014
Nice capture!
January 30th, 2014
Blown away by the composition and by the fact of this wonderful photo as a second!!
January 30th, 2014
The strength is in the composition, strong diagonal lines leading the viewer from bottom right to top left. Great shot!
January 30th, 2014
Wonderful architecture - the shapes and lines create a great interest.
January 30th, 2014
Wonderful shapes, lines and angles.
January 30th, 2014
It does look cold --but a great capture of shapes and textures in this Taffy
January 30th, 2014
Interesting lines and angles, but it does look cccold!
January 30th, 2014
very cool shapes and angles. So interesting. Great shot.
January 30th, 2014

January 30th, 2014
'coo'l looking architecture ~ love the POV
January 30th, 2014
I love this pov! Wonderful design and shot!
January 30th, 2014
Nice way to spend the last of the month! I do this as well, but it is usually at random times when I get the urge. Nice capture of the planetarium!
January 30th, 2014
Will have to go back to see which you thought was better for the day. This is awesome.
January 30th, 2014
great capture.
January 30th, 2014
That building is fascinating and it looks brutally cold.
January 30th, 2014
fantastic architectural shot, beautiful but looks so cold
January 30th, 2014
Fabulous textures and I like your idea of a review each month of didn't-quite-make-it-photos - might try something similar myself, thanks!
January 30th, 2014
Great POV,a super shot!!
January 30th, 2014
Great perspective but it does cold and austere.
January 30th, 2014
Love everything about this capture. The moody sky is stunning and the colors and textures are fantastic! fav
January 30th, 2014
Awesome composition and processing - fav
January 30th, 2014
I really like this, all the geometry and the composition is great. I like the idea of your plan to start posting things that missed first selection first time around. I often think you like things more when you come back to them later. Your comments have made me think I need to plan my photography more, especially 365.
January 30th, 2014
This is true perfection in every way. The pov and the composition really engage the eye. The colors are fantastic as well. Fav.
January 30th, 2014
I commend you on you year 2 goal. To me, the beauty of 365 is that it allows you to do what's best for you. Thank you for sharing this image. Love the lines and textures and perspective.
January 30th, 2014
Love this comp. Beautiful colors and pov!
January 30th, 2014
It looks like some sort of impregnable fortress in this view. Massive, strong, and a bit foreboding. A very strong image.
January 31st, 2014
Nice POV.
January 31st, 2014
Fabulous composition and interesting angles and lines! Fav
January 31st, 2014
Very nice! Looks like a movie set.
January 31st, 2014
@kathyladley Thanks so much for the fav, Kathy!
January 31st, 2014
@rvwalker Thanks Ross. When I saw how it came out, it is much more sci-fi and impressive looking than I'd imagined. The front view really is pretty cliché looking of the round dome on a squarish building. From this view, it really has such a different feel.
January 31st, 2014
Neat perspective. The clouds are quite impressive too
January 31st, 2014
Fabulous FAV! Magnificent composition!
January 31st, 2014
cool shot!

January 31st, 2014
Super pOV and processing - looks grim though!
January 31st, 2014
Beautiful lines and tones in this great composition.
January 31st, 2014
A very beautiful capture. The colour, contrasts and lines are stunning. Great PoV to! Fav
January 31st, 2014
great processing and pov
January 31st, 2014
I really love this shot- it's so solid feeling and yet has that wonderful thrust up to the skies. I love planetariums although it's been ages since I've been to one. fav
February 1st, 2014
@olivetreeann @genesis_one Thanks Ann and Corrie for the view, comment, and fav! You are both such supportive 365 friends! Your fav's are especially appreciated on a dreary day that was hard for me to get enthused about photographing anything!
February 1st, 2014
wow! fantastic pov
February 1st, 2014
With all the ice and clouds it almost looks like it is on another planet! Fav!
February 1st, 2014
This is fabulous! I like your filler plan! Filler Fun at Final part of the month!
February 1st, 2014
@espyetta You come up with the very best names of anyone on the site!!! I love Filler Fun at Final! Great idea! The tag could be FFF (which is much more positive than my "coming in second" idea!
February 1st, 2014
@espyetta Especially for those of us in years 2 and beyond -- it makes sense that we systematically find ways to get the time under control.
February 1st, 2014
Great idea for time management and to manage the addiction. haha I am doing the post a shot a day on the right day and it is tiring. hee hee after not having done that for a year and a half. Today I just posted my days shots from yesterday. The day before I posted for Jan. 29 and 30. Then today, after posting, I was like "Oh, now I have to take a pic TODAY and post it." haha I like it though! and yes, feel free to use FFF
February 1st, 2014
Such interesting angles, shapes and textures! Definitely has a cool sci-fi feel to it!
February 1st, 2014
fav! love this, it is so science fiction!
February 2nd, 2014
This is a very special perspective with lovely lines leading to the dome...and HDR from Handheld images? Wow, that takes a steady hand!
February 2nd, 2014
@ericdibosco I had help re steady hands as I was leaning the camera on the wall of the angled part of the building to the right of center. I don't think I would have been as steady without that support.
February 3rd, 2014
very cool. love the image and industrial and remote feel.
February 4th, 2014
I'm liking you're Year 2 plan. A great idea to give your other photos a chance to shine. I'm loving the point of view of this building and the gloomy sky!
