I took this shot after our family's photo shoot this afternoon, held at the Art Institute and I'm so relieved to say, a success! I did take hundreds of shots, and am glad I did as we ended up with one where everyone is mostly happy with how they look, and the baby was looking at the camera. Whew!!! And I have tons of other shots now to make a collage for them too. Afterward we took a walk along the lake and I spotted this group sitting in their winter coats on the edge of the walkway overlooking the lake. I liked the feel, and was going to just tweak it, but when I opened up Nik Suite, the polarization filter was already there because of the lily shot ( http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2014-03-22) I just posted in my lily series. And I really liked the ominous feeling it created and the tones of the lake -- it didn't look like that, truly, but it felt like this. Happy accident as I would never have considered it normally. I did a little more tweaking to lighten it up a bit in Aperture.
I hope you all consider submitting to the mundane and abstract challenge this week -- zippers should be fun to work with!
Wow...this is fabulous! Except for the winter coats it could be a summer day with a summer storm brewing.. Love that boat in the far distance also. A very ominous sky.
What a fantastic shot, Taffy. The people look like one is there looking at them. I have only seen this a few times recently. They are so clear to see. FAV
What a fantastic image Taffy! Fabulous processing even if you say it was accidental! I love the atmosphere of the shot! It's as if the people are waiting for news maybe from that boat out at sea. A shot where it tells a story - love it! Fav!
I love this picture. I have always loved dramatically lit subjects against a dark cloudy background. (I know someone said this was subdued lighting, but because of the contrast with lake and sky, it looks dramatic to me.)
don't you love that when your software teaches you something :). I've learned so much by accidental application of Nik filters. This is a great shot! The light colored coats on each end of the row of people is another thing that really works.
Oh yes, that onimous mood is great and I love that sky, makes me feel like diving there in all that blueness! Great to hear about the shoot, are we going to see the pics?
@susale Thanks Sue! Diving in now though would definitely require a fairly thick full head to toe wetsuit!! We saw sailors out in training yesterday and it looked lovely, but it must have been cold (we had 2 inches of snow today!). I think I'll post a collage of a few of the images from various photo shoot times, and include the 'main' one that everyone liked the best in the center. I got carried away, of course, with my nephew's baby and have hundreds I suspect where he is the total star (with one of the others in the photo with him here and there).
@taffy A collage sounds like a fantastic idea, looking forward seeing it! It´s understandable that you wanted to take many pics, it was special occasion and I´m sure every pic is in its own way special, I feel there never can be too many pics of babies, every moment with them is so precious! Still that much snow,?! Wow, it seams like all the other parts of this world have got the snow that we didn´t this winter, let´s hope the spring will soon catch up :)
Not looking forward to the days the sky looks like that all on its own. Twisters just aren't my favorite things! Sitting by Lake Michigan is sure enjoyable though.
