We are dog sitting Molly for a few days - a Portuguese Water Dog who is quite lovable. At home she does things like beg, jump up on people, gets on furniture, but she has been a model guest and we're really enjoying having a dog around. She was pretty cooperative as I tried to get a framing shot for Technique 29 ( http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/23251/technique-challenge-29-framing). I was using the stairs for the lower part and an almost horizontal tree for the upper, but ended up doing a little cropping so am not sure if it's still considered framing if the top (the tree trunk) isn't going all the way across. I wanted Molly on the line of thirds which required the crop.
I'm glad you enjoyed the funny turkeys! Thanks for your visits and comments!
@maggiemae She does love water, and the smellier the better. We gave her a bath yesterday after her swim, so now she's on a leash as she has selective hearing (as in deaf to "No, Molly, don't you dare!" but quite good at hearing to the sound of opening a food wrapper or refrigerator door).
So cute shot-wish I could find somebody to baby sit my Inga so I could travel somewhere--I've interviewed some folks here(Craig list) but sorry to say-they all look like alcoholic/drug junkies:(
Beautiful image - love the composition! What a gorgeous dog Taffy and she sounds such fun - you won't want to give her back! Love her markings! There is a SWD who lives round the corner from me who is a solid cream colour and looks like a sheep when she has been trimmed. Finlay loves to run with her on the field.
I really like the lighting in this. Molly does almost look like she is posing for you. Never done animal shots and my kids never pose, even if they do they still don't stay still!!
What a gorgeous looking and somewhat comical looking dog - with one black and one white ear and one black patch on her eye. So cute. Know how you feel - it's very tough not having a dog around - always feels as though there is something missing.
@jocasta I love having the company. It does remind me, though, how lucky we were to have such a well-behaved dog. It's so strange to realize how out of rhythm I am now to having a dog. Maybe someday...they are such wonderful companions!
She's very cute! I think you have a nice zig-zag going through the composition with the stairs. I don't know if it's really framing as I think framing is really more like "boxing" something in but I could be wrong. Whether it's framing or not- the cropping you did was the best way to present the picture and that's really what it's all about!
I love how you have interpreted "framing" here, and I think it works well for the not-overly-obvious but quite intentionally chosen 3/4 frame. I wonder if Molly being lightened up a bit more might make a difference, as at present, the wood appears lighter and takes part of your attention away from the subject.
She really is such a lovely lady, and posing so nicely for you, too. Isn't it so funny how dogs can be on their best behavior in selective situations? :) I like the almost horizontal tree across the top. Such an unusual, natural feature. A real landmark!
@gratefulness Thanks Sandi! Dogs are smart and do adjust behavior based on expectations. I appreciate your comment on our almost horizontal tree. It's amazing it is still alive -- but it's a birch, and they aren't the strongest or longest lasting trees and this one looks a bit precarious.
