I took this the same night as my other sky shot, this direction looking into three points of light: the moon, its reflection, and the solar lighting that shines over Nutmeg's grave. I wanted this shot to mark the end of summer, including our quick weekend trip back after the school year had started. Compared to the other shot, the moon's light prevents us from seeing as many stars. But I liked the way the three points of light are as important as the night sky.
Absolutely astonishing capture. You have captured all that is in the sky so wonderfully - I have never managed to capture the stars, myself. I love the light reflection of the moon. FAV.
@gazbadger Just realized that I didn't tag you. Thanks again for your help with the shots! No other opportunities came up this past weekend, so this is it with sky shots until I get someplace out of the city. It was really fun working on these! This one was taken only at 1600 ISO because the moon was so bright.
Beautiful capture of the moon and stars Taffy, I am lucky where we live we see so many stars at night, it was the first thing I noticed when we moved here 16 years ago. I never take it for granted, not everyone gets to see them in town and the cities. Great shot.
Such a poignant shot Taffy! I love the way you have brought the light over Nutmeg's grave into the shot. Goodbye Beaver Island for another year I feel sad to leave you!
Gorgeous sky and moonlight. Fav! (I know you like people's views, love the shot but would've blacked over the light in lower left. Would've been hypnotic focal point of moonlight).
@michaelelliott THanks Michael. I may create another version without the light on the left, maybe a vertical. But that's Nutmeg's grave and we have a solar light on it that amazingly survived the brutal winter last year. So, that was part of the reason for the composition for this version. I know aesthetically it isn't as strong but emotionally it is part of the good-bye to the island as we 'leave Nutmeg' for the year. Yes, totally corny and not at all in keeping with my normally rational and pragmatic view of the world!
