Thank you all so much for such a great photo day. Your response to my shot of Buckingham Fountain's mist was so supportive. It was a shot I was excited to post, so I really appreciate your kind words and favs. And then, my Portico on a Sunny Afternoon was #4 in TT this week -- very exciting and motivating.
This is an image I've been working on for almost two weeks (thanks for your help Ross, Jane, Eric, as always!). Once in b&w, I had challenges because of the lighting and contrasts so it's taken awhile to get it to the point where it was both what I had in mind and the quality was ready to post. Interested to know what you think. Some changes I've made:
1. lightening the area where the couple is walking so they were more visible
2. adjusting blown out lighting caused by lightening the overall image
3. increasing contrast to counteract the lightening needed and darken some of the areas, but
4. strategically re-lightening a few of the trees so that it wasn't a totally dark image.
It all started as I liked the repetition of lines in the fountain.

Hi All -- as we move into architectural elements, I thought I'd post this as one of the types that would fit. It can be an element in a building (like Rachel posted of the dome) or a smaller element of some unit -- like the segment of the fountain here. Shall we plan on two weeks of architectural elements, or just one? I dropped the ball so we're a tad behind, but it felt like everyone was really busy too.
The result is excellent, Taffy.
I admire your dedication and constant loyalty to 365... You do such a great job and your photos are so good.
I cannot find the time to devote to the site activity as I used to. There seems to be so many things coming up and the 24 hours don't seem to suffice. I'm sorry I'm missiing out a lot of stuff but can't help it.
Whenever I can I visit 365 and have a quick look at your work...wish I could comment and interact more.
My love to Junko @jyokota
Wonderful processing taffy. I like the lighting around the people. I think they add a scale to the image and the lines are leading to them. Great shot for b and w. Impressed by the skill and time you give to processing.
@golftragic@taffy Yes, I would like 2 weeks too. We have just started school holidays here for 2 weeks, and I will be away for the second week and not posting at all during that time.
I love hearing how you worked with your photo. I really like the results. I especially like how the couple is highlighted and the water flowing into the main area!
Just a great photo. It's hard to work on a photo you love that just isn't quite as you saw it. So easy to overwork it or quit before you get there. Here you have found that sweet spot for the photo.
Two weeks please Taffy! I still have my full building shot to process when I get home so a bit behind. Love this shot of yours - great light and composition! So interesting to read how much work you put into the shot! Wonderful result! Fav!
Fantastic night shot! Thank you for explaining us what you did. I would like to ask you if you used high ISO or a tripod to take this shot, thank you, Taffy!
Stunning picture and processing. Thank you for letting us know how you did the processing and why. Congratulations on making the Trending Page. Well deserved.
@emiko Yes, my ISO was VERY high -- at 6400. It was dark under there. But I did not have time to set up my tripod (was with others who did not want to wait) so that's why I upped the ISO so much. At 1/30 shutter speed and a wide open aperture (1.4) I was able to keep the camera shake to a minimum. Thanks for your visit and comment.
As a relative beginner, it is so interesting for me to read what folks are doing to process their images and settings they are using to take their shots. I like the curves and lights in this shot... and I really appreciate your explanation about settings and processing.
An intriguing image what with all the lines. The eyes are definitely given lots to follow through the picture. Reading about the process you go through to reach the desired finish is most interesting. Thank you for sharing info like that. Thanks too for the thoughts shared on my 'Roadside Show' pic.
Wow, very dramatic. It is perhaps a tad too dark for my tastes, only because my eye is working to make out detail, but the effect is still powerful and moody.
I really love your end result, Taffy....so much more of interest visible deeper into the picture. Such good use of leading lines and repetition from your well chosen viewpoint and composition.
Super shot, I love the three fountains in the foreground, the leading lines to the couple walking in the distance surrounded by the trees. Excellent processing. Fav.
