Little Danbo and P3 tried to take their minds off our missing friend, Big Danbo. They chose my new boots to play on -- with Little Danbo hiding while P3 climbed around to find him.
Fire Saga only has mostly good things today...
1. We moved contents of refrigerator from home to the new condo. Almost everything that could be saved was moved. 24 hours to go and we'll be in our new temporary home.
2. We met 'the kids' (stepson, daughter-in-law, grandkid 1 and 2) for brunch since they live near Bill and Junko's where we are staying. D-in-L and I went shopping so I'd have clothes for work this week. It was nice to spend time with her.
3. Feel confident I can dress for work this week after wearing the same pair of jeans since last Monday. I now have added to my wardrobe: 4 pair of socks, black leggings, gray tights, black tights, lined workout type casual pants, the boots pictured above (on sale today - yay - as it has been snowing), grey turtleneck, grey long-sleeve t-shirt, some lingerie. I have one borrowed dress I can keep as long as I need, and 2 sweaters that I had returned from the fire restorers, along with my down jacket. After a week in the one pair of jeans, one pair of socks, and one pair of shoes, I feel like can be fine for months! And I no longer have to wash out something every night to have it clean to wear again the next day! Mmm...just reread for spelling/grammar and realized all I own are gray and black things now. Wonder what that means?
Less good things:
Danbo remains MIA. I do not think he will return. I just hope he has found a new, good home and that he recovers from the trauma of the fire. He will be missed. He would not be happy at Jim's response to hearing about him being missing for the past several days..."Just order a new one, for goodness sake."
If you've read this far, you are one of those who has been so wonderful in sending me encouraging notes. Thank you, thank you, thank you. They are bursts of positive energy throughout the day and much appreciated. Some I read aloud so Jim can share in the little joys. He sends his thanks.
All grey and black clothes, sounds a tad bleak. You should treat yourself to a bright scarf or something like that. I hope your move goes smoothly. If you decide to go with Jim's suggestion of getting a new Danbo, Big Danbo may well show up (it's Murphy's Law!)
So glad you have more than one set of clothes now. I'm thinking gray and black means you are chic, hip, and happening! They are my personal faves in the wardrobe department. From what I've seen in downtown Chicago, you'll fit right in and not be mistaken as a tourist (on whom I've seen amazingly bright outfits and known they aren't from here!). Just sayin'!
Great to hear there were more "betters" than "worses" today.
@voiceprintz Hee hee ...you are so right about Chicago's preferred "color" being black and gray. Hadn't thought about it as being chic, which is so much better than being dull and depressed. Thanks!
I agree with Lisa, get another Danbo and your original one will show up. I love your photo and your boots. I did not know that little Danbo and P3 are so small. They look a lot bigger in closeup photos. I think you should get clothing you like. It is after all Fall into Winter and people tend to dress in darker clothing. I saw a woman yesterday in black slacks, black shoes, a black top and a white vest over her top. She looked great and I commented to my husband how well put together her outfit was. I think the face shows emotion, not clothing. Enjoy what works for you. Have fun shopping.
Wonderful capture Taffy of your two tiny heroes playing in giant land!! Yes order a new big Danbo and he is sure to show up. I like the sound of your new clothes - chic rather than drab I am sure!! Lots more good things today - I know every day will be better for you and Jim and your list of good things will grow accordingly!! Your new apartment looks fab so enjoy this new phase in your life. You are doing so well in facing all the challenges!! Take care - stay safe!!
Sorry about big Danbo. Hadn't realised little Danbo was quite that small, nice sense of scale on those rather lovely boots. Hope you have a good week in your new place with clean, new clothes.
Men, they think they are so clever. You can't "just" order a new one. But to give you a funny story. When I was little my mother was learning to drive and I was in the back site with my sister and aunt. I played with the door handle and opps out I went. When the told my mother she thought it was my doll and said "we'll get a new one." Well when she figured out it was me she slammed on the brakes. She never did learn to drive and when I grew up she teased me about it sometimes. Hope I made you smile.
What a great shot. Definitely buy another Danbo. Maybe big Danbo has become real just like The Velveteen Rabbit. My daughter used to love that story, but it took a whole box of tissues to get to the end of the story.
I love the simplicity of this shot! Love the boots and love the hide-n-seek factor, too! So sorry to hear that Danbo is still MIA! Somethings just cannot be replaced. ;-)
Hang in there! Also, black and gray go with everything, so you have a good base to grow on!
Nice boots - looks like P3 is in need of some snow! Glad to hear your wardrobe is coming together. I imagine this will make you re-think how much stuff you actually need - we all need to do that!
It's heartbreaking that Big Danbo is lost. You didn't need another loss in life right now, you needed to be able to hang onto to the few precious things you were able to save. I'm wishing so much that he's hiding out in some Lost and Found because a kind-hearted individual wants him to find his family again. I feel such a sadness over this part of your story.
Glad to hear that there are more plusses than minuses today, but hoping Big Danbo shows up anyway. It is amazing how little we need to be functional. Grey is the new black. ;) Hang in there.
ha ha, it's a shame Jim and Craig didn't meet when we were in Chicago, that would have been Craig's response (and solution) to a missing friend! LOVE your boots :)..........think your wardrobe is in need of a couple of bright scarves...I am sure P3 is going to have fun playing with little Danbo in the snow :)
Well, it's sounds like you've had some fun in the shopping department and that the little ones are enjoying your new things too! Gray and black can be quite elegant, but also practical and functional so I think you've hit the best of both worlds! To be on the safe side, when you shop again, go for jeweltone accents. They look so beautiful next to black! Also, if Big Danbo really does appear to be gone for good, ordering a new one will not negate anything you did with the older one. Maybe when the new one arrives you can put a little 2 on him somewhere so if #1 shows up, you'll be good to go! Glad to see that much is moving forward!
Oh, Taffy, you are too dear! We come to feel about many here as someone we've known a long while and what hurts them, hurts us (for them) as well. Shared joys happen more often, thankfully! Given your wardrobe description, I simply thought you were being sensible about buying a monochrome wardrobe so as to stretch it further (as when traveling!) I think you appear to be holding up and I don't see "grey" as a reflection of your outlook! I like to hear that you're sharing with Jim as I'm quite sure he has a periphery knowledge of many of your followers. Love to you both...count me amongst your friends who care...and there certainly are many!
You're amazing mate! But time for a few splashes of colour methinks. Love your shot and pleased you'll now have dry feet. I simply can't imagine what it must be like to have snow everywhere! Tell Jim he's insensitive, a 'new' Danbo won't replace THE Danbo.
I can't imagine the sad ordeal you have been through but you seem to have a great positive outlook on getting your life back in order. Hugs to you! P.S. Shopping is ALWAYS good therapy.
These are extremely stylish boots, and your black/gray wardrobe sounds perfect!! When I moved to San Diego from NYC I felt totally out of place with my black clothes in the land of sunshine and brightness! I still mostly pack black clothes with some accents when I travel....makes it much easier to coordinate with a limited wardrobe out of a suitcase! I had been thinking about you and Danbo hoping that he would turn up, and believe me, if we had your address you would be flooded with a herd of Danbos from all of us!! And, maybe some bright scarves to keep you warm and brighten up your winter palette. Can't wait to see you happily settled in your new place with the gang. Sending warm, happy thoughts your way....and, I mean that about getting your address!! :-))))
You're really sweet to say this Osia! We did get moved in today, but my computer has crashed and is being repaired at Apple. I hope anyway...I feel like the wrong end of a cosmic joke! What other things are in store??? So today was not a good day, but I think the place is going to be wonderful eventually. It's weird that it is so lovely, but so impersonal -- it could be anyone's home, not particularly ours. I think it's made me a bit sad which sounds horribly ungrateful, so that's why it's probably karma that I wasn't able to post tonight! And I agree -- even on a good day, photos of my closet show primarily black -- so I should have not been surprised to see myself picking out all the same things! Off to sleep -- tomorrow will be a better day...
@thirdjoe Thanks Joe!! It particularly means a lot tonight as it was not a good day. It will improve...(see message above to Osia for details if interested -- all temporary, of course, so it will get better). 365 has been so supportive -- it's meant a great deal to me.
Such a cute shot Taffy, glad you can find a little joy as it must be a difficult time. Jim's reaction is such a man's reaction isn't it?! Sorry to hear about your computer too... hope things brighten up in the morning.
You forgot to tag Osia when you replied to her.
I have just been catching up! I am so sorry to hear of your troubles and hope things are starting to settle down and are getting better. Your captures, as always, are marvellous. Hang in there!
@panthora I forgot to tag you last night -- see message 5 comments up. Not a great day...down to the last little details! But again, many thanks for your support! Thanks, Sheralee @bella_ss for pointing out I'd forgotten to tag.
Creative shot Taffy. Currently travelling and making the most of the wifi on the plane to catch up with everyone. Your fire saga, sounds like a bit of a nightmare. Must be an upsetting and unsettling experience so hope you manage to make the temporary accommodation a home from home for the duration of your stay. Hope the computer gets fixed very soon!
Glad to hear today was such a good day. Good thing you have some clothes now :) This is such a lovely shot, very creative! The b&w works so well and seems like little danbo and p3 had a great time!
Just so long as it's not Fifty Shades of Grey!!! I know why the colours. You've remembered your trip to France and decided on some French chic. Good that you're nearly settled in. Now those boots are smart. I just wonder, they would look good in that book I mentioned!
Taffy @panthora is so right............about you being flooded with Danbos and scarves if we only knew where to send them! All we can send is positive vibes and love via 365. So sorry your Apple is now playing up, I am sure you've had a least double if not treble your 3 bad things in a row......things have to look up now xx
Love the boots Taffy, they will go nicely with your outfits.
So sad your computer is now giving you grief, I think you have had enough to last you a life time. Things will definitely look better in the morning,
Read it all (hot dog!). And smoking hot boots. And boo on missing Danbo. And glad you have clothes. And so thankful for the good things. And I'm thankful for you. Starting Thanksgiving early. Hang in there.
@darylo Thanks Daryl -- what a roller coaster it's been. Yesterday was so bad that I couldn't even write/post as it would have sounded so pathetic. But today's been a much better day and I'm hoping the corner has been turned.
Loving your boots Taffy. Sorry about big danbo. I think it's quite often the seemingly small things that get to us. That through them we deal with the bigger hard stuff. You miss him. You be sad he has gone. Don't you listen to the men!
Great to hear there were more "betters" than "worses" today.
Hang in there! Also, black and gray go with everything, so you have a good base to grow on!
nice about the retail therapy... your new wardrobe gives me a giggle... i see nothing wrong with it at all!
You forgot to tag Osia when you replied to her.
