Don't Fear - I Come In Peace

This is Chicago's Joan Miró sculpture that lives in the shadow of the more famous Picasso across the street. In fact, I hadn't paid attention to it until after visiting the Joan Miró museum in Barcelona and realizing what a treasure I frequently passed by. From this angle, I thought it looked like a very friendly alien.
Thank you for your visits and comments on my shot of the moon below our balcony yesterday.
I visited the Joan Miro museum in Barcelona too - her face is everywhere! I didn't know her sculpture was elsewhere! This looks to me like a blunt anchor held up by a drain plunger!! Sorry!

While I really agree with @maggiemae, I'll go along with your friendly alien theory bc you're the artist on this one! :) Besides, if it *is* an alien, I would really want it to come in peace! ;)

Oh, defiantly alien to me. What an interesting statue. Love the pov you've used to get a great background.

This sculpture has the signature style of Miro. Nice capture.

@maggiemae who do you refer to? Miro was a man.

Very cool

Fabulous shot and great title, it does look rather alien. Good to hear it is friendly.
January 29th, 2015
Nice POV!
January 29th, 2015
@anazad511 Thats right - I thought at first it was a woman then was astonished to find the reality!
January 29th, 2015
@maggiemae When we were there in Barcelona there were a lot of photos up everywhere of a woman! I just put the two together. Cant' remember now who that woman was!

It looks very much like an alien Taffy!! Great pov and fabulous background!! I wonder how much money they paid for the sculpture? Too much I expect!!
January 29th, 2015
I loved your assessment @taffy. Made me laugh. Always nice to have a laugh early in the morning.
January 29th, 2015
Ha, I like your caption. It does look a bit like an alien. Very nice pov.
January 29th, 2015
I thought it was some type of anchor as I scrolled down. Great shot

we used to call this one "the female fork". There's an interesting story about someone's response to what he did not think was art: when this creature landed on the streets of Chicago, he responded by spattering her with red paint (which actually looked like something the artist might have done himself, but that was an accident)
January 29th, 2015
Definitely quite alien but seems friendly and greeting all with open arms!

Great title and nice shot - lovely pov and symmetry
January 29th, 2015
It is a fantastic piece of art. I feel a little sorry for it having to compete with Picasso.
January 29th, 2015
At first glance I thought the upper portion looked a little like a penguin. Penguins and Taffy are rather synonymous for some reason. :) The tan and gold coloring of the buildings make a great backdrop for this friendly alien's photo.

Awesome shot

January 30th, 2015
did you have to lay on the sidewalk to get this shot? Very cool POV
January 30th, 2015
Oh, it's a Miro! And here I thought P3 had taken a sculpting class and did a self-portrait. (o: Nice shot!
January 30th, 2015
Such a fabulous pov - awesome!

Isn't it fun aka embarrassing to discover something in your city that you pass everyday. Great you explored it further.
January 30th, 2015
Interesting sculpture and nice composition. I too thought it looked like an anchor.
January 30th, 2015
Treasures around every corner.... a very nice find. I can see the alien... but are those arms, or legs? For a short moment, I could see aliens doing yoga. ;) Very nice POV.

@rosiekerr @sailingmusic Thanks Rosie and Myrna! Actually, I left off his entire body -- he's quite tall so I was essentially standing under the figure looking up and back toward the buildings. So the arms are actually about 6 feet up from the ground (Myrna, you made me smile with your question -- icky thought to be literally on a Chicago street -- kneeling maybe..., but that's all I could bring myself to do no matter what the shot!).

@rosiekerr @skstein @sailingmusic @lyndemc @maggiemae @dibzgreasley
Thanks for the visit and fun comments. I thought you might be interested in seeing the whole sculpture -- I definitely cut a LOT out of the scene! http://www.snipview.com/q/Mir%C3%B3's%20Chicago

@francoise --I hadn't heard that story -- thanks for sharing it!
January 30th, 2015
OK, now that I have seen the entire work (thank you), I am more oriented. What a cool piece of sculpture!
January 30th, 2015
Wonderful pov for this sculpture!! Awesome!
January 30th, 2015
Fabulous POV. Love your photo, title and background too.
January 30th, 2015
I love the POV with the Chicago buildings behind.
January 30th, 2015
Great that you focused on just a portion of the Miro sculpture! The sunny
highlights on the building add sparkle!

Super capture, it is easy to overlook this installation if you are not familiar with the city and the art work within it.Great capture to help bring it to life.

It reminds me of those Venetian carnival masks… Very cool, and I like the angle of the shot...
