This is Chicago's Joan Miró sculpture that lives in the shadow of the more famous Picasso across the street. In fact, I hadn't paid attention to it until after visiting the Joan Miró museum in Barcelona and realizing what a treasure I frequently passed by. From this angle, I thought it looked like a very friendly alien.
Thank you for your visits and comments on my shot of the moon below our balcony yesterday.
I visited the Joan Miro museum in Barcelona too - her face is everywhere! I didn't know her sculpture was elsewhere! This looks to me like a blunt anchor held up by a drain plunger!! Sorry!
While I really agree with @maggiemae, I'll go along with your friendly alien theory bc you're the artist on this one! :) Besides, if it *is* an alien, I would really want it to come in peace! ;)
@maggiemae When we were there in Barcelona there were a lot of photos up everywhere of a woman! I just put the two together. Cant' remember now who that woman was!
we used to call this one "the female fork". There's an interesting story about someone's response to what he did not think was art: when this creature landed on the streets of Chicago, he responded by spattering her with red paint (which actually looked like something the artist might have done himself, but that was an accident)
At first glance I thought the upper portion looked a little like a penguin. Penguins and Taffy are rather synonymous for some reason. :) The tan and gold coloring of the buildings make a great backdrop for this friendly alien's photo.
Treasures around every corner.... a very nice find. I can see the alien... but are those arms, or legs? For a short moment, I could see aliens doing yoga. ;) Very nice POV.
@rosiekerr@sailingmusic Thanks Rosie and Myrna! Actually, I left off his entire body -- he's quite tall so I was essentially standing under the figure looking up and back toward the buildings. So the arms are actually about 6 feet up from the ground (Myrna, you made me smile with your question -- icky thought to be literally on a Chicago street -- kneeling maybe..., but that's all I could bring myself to do no matter what the shot!).
Super capture, it is easy to overlook this installation if you are not familiar with the city and the art work within it.Great capture to help bring it to life.
@maggiemae who do you refer to? Miro was a man.
Thanks for the visit and fun comments. I thought you might be interested in seeing the whole sculpture -- I definitely cut a LOT out of the scene! http://www.snipview.com/q/Mir%C3%B3's%20Chicago
@francoise --I hadn't heard that story -- thanks for sharing it!
highlights on the building add sparkle!
