Back to the lighthouse area to practice LR5 processing. On this one, I was working on both contrast and graininess for the sand and the ridges.
P3 posted his Thursday post today on 365 Toys -- it's puzzle week for those who are interested in joining in the fun. P3 took on an eagle to get his spot in the puzzle: http://365project.org/365toygroup/365/2015-01-29
Just beautiful! You've really captured the sensuous curves of the sand and snow. And the fence in the background provides the perfect transition between that and the sky. FAV, of course.
This is really gorgeous, Taffy! You have used the lines and ridges in the sand to such great advantage, and your contrast is spot-on. You are really mastering LR!
Amazing shot! Is that sand and snow mixed? It makes a nice pattern of ridges. I just bought the Kelby book, but have had no time to even look at it yet. Fav btw.
@888rachel Thanks Rachel. It is a mix of snow and sand, with the snow on the sand, and then the windblown sand on top of the snow. It was pretty cool photographing there, but hard to get the contrast right in processing. I've had no time to read Kelby at all as the semester has gotten going -- so frustrating as I had gotten off to a good start.
Taffy, you never "do wrong"! Your photography always amazes me and more often than not, you should hear me sigh...it's always just beautiful! I love every visit to your photos and wish I had more time to never miss anything!
The wind has done some nice work here and then you came along and did it great justice. Wonderful capture. Glad you are making such wonderful progress with LR.
Taffy, you nailed your goal of getting contrast and graininess for the sand and ridges. Even looking at the image as it appears on the home page I could see great detail especially in the ridges in the sand. Instant Fav!
@eyeamlisa No, but I'm realizing how much I would benefit from taking one as I'm not a good independent learner at this point since too many other things get in the way.
Taffy, I hope you feel like you are learning LR because as far as I can see you've mastered it! This is really beautiful and so full of detail, not to mention it's a fantastic composition as well. All the processing in the world can't replace that! fav
Whatever sliders you maneuvered in LR, the detail in the sand and snow really shows. The dark fence adds the perfect contrasting color against the sky and snow and divides the image in pleasing thirds.
Thanks for the enthusiastic comment on my 'Puzzled' pic. Every time I see the photo now I can't help but think about the behind-the-scenes family fun.
@maggiemae Haha! I have given up on PP this past year -- I never (or very very rarely) can get on it no matter how many fav's). But in a way, it's been a good thing as I don't hope for or expect it for any of my photos! Thanks for the kind thoughts!
Fav!

Great shot....!
