Drawing again on Chicago architecture images taken a few weeks ago before we returned to Beaver Island. Bob Zwolinsky @bob65 suggested I try the image I'd posted a few days ago in monochrome. It was interesting to work on -- it called for some decisions about amount of contrast, structure, and brightness, and reflections worked really differently in b&w.
Super result! I like this SO much better in the b&w, which I would not have predicted upon seeing the first image. Wonderful crossing lines and perspectives.
@taffy I prefer the mono version. Without the distraction of colour you have a lead in from the top right courner along the walkway and then the main building, reflections and side buildings all take you to the sky. I also think the reflections have more impact in mono.
What a striking image with all its lines and angles and color variations. Had a look at the color version (I'm so behind in viewing pictures) — I really like both versions, the blue of the color one, the details of this one.
@bob65 Thanks for the suggestion and for commenting, Bob. I hadn't thought about trying b&w for this initially because color seemed so integral to the scene. But, I was quite surprised at how much the reflections and the forms came out in this version. Interesting too, to read the range of responses from preferring this one to preferring the color, and why.
B&w for me too - there's a lot to see in all the reflections, it's one of those images where you can keep coming back and spotting something different every time - and in this version you can really enjoy that and all the lucious lines and geometry to the full.
I am a bit late to the party in faving this, but it is really great. Really makes you want to look and search to see what is what and what is a reflection.
