Somewhere Over the Rainbow by taffy

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

As I was flying home today, we went over what I think was the Grand Canyon, on the flight between Los Angeles and Chicago. As I looked out, I suddenly saw the rainbow, grabbed my camera and caught this scene. Of course, totally violates the rule of thirds, but the plane wouldn't stop long enough for me to compose the shot and I couldn't bear to crop out any of the canyon. So this one's just for fun! Nice to be "home" (well, back at Junko & Bill's). Home is still looking to be a few months away.
Thank you for your wonderful, supportive comments on my night sky and other shots from the photo course and practice sessions afterward. Very much appreciated!
Brilliant.

Best planescape I've seen! grand canyon, good clouds, AND a rainbow! Hope your trip home was better than the flight out.

Excellent timing and well spotted. I saw a round rainbow from a plane once while flying over New Zealand and I didn't have a camera with me, damn.

Rules made to be broken. No harm done here - amazing photo even if not taken from a commercial plane seat!

Great image, the rule of thirds is a rule, not a law central composition works well here

@rosiekind It was in my lap -- I had just finished shooting the canyon when I saw the rainbow. If it had been even 30 seconds later, the camera would have been put into its case!

@onewing I was lucky -- had just finished capturing the canyon and hadn't put it away. Another 30 seconds, it wouldn't have worked for me either!

I've loved the flights that have taken us over the Grand Canyon! I'm totally heart-broken if it's on a day when the canyon is cloud covered! (I want my e-ticket money back!)
