Red Lanterns by taffy

Red Lanterns

Throughout Yangshuo, red lanterns hung everywhere, especially in the small pathways in the older villages. One evening, we even had a portrait session in one of the towns, with the gentleman responsible for lighting the lanterns each night.
Thank you again for all your wonderful comments/favs on this series. There are many more photos to come -- and Junko is already back in China for work, so we will both be posting in the days/weeks ahead.

I find this shot very appealing with the rich orange/red against the dark textured background of wire spaghetti. Perfect dof.

softness between the wires and brick.

Lovely pop of orange against the muted background. The lanterns look so graceful, hanging there in the dusk.

@pamknowler There were some streets/lanes where the lanterns worked to such great effect. Others, they looked a little sad as they were wearing out.

I've always loved these lanterns. My parents used to have some decorating the patio when they had a cook-out. Sadly they didn't survive the years. But these are lovely.

Beaut full colors against the desaturated background and I'm glad there are three main ones. I'm loving your China shot even if the atmosphere that is so magical is d/ t pollution

Beautiful colour contrasted with the background. Fav.

Excellent capture of that ancient atmospheric setting

@jgpittenger The pollution worked for us in some shots, but really was frustrating most of the time. I think it has to be hard on the folks who live there all winter with all the burning of fossil fuels making it worse.

Lovely lanterns.
