Junko and Bill gave me this funny tee that actually works quite well. It has an "anchor" and a hinge so it bends completely and then pops back - has lasted through 4 rounds of golf. Weird but effective. Except on this hole. Note the large clump of trees on the near left of the heart shaped sand trap. That's where my ball ended up in hiding. And then there's the T-off spot...for Beaver Island, this is fairly well groomed! What a perfect day to be outside even if I spent some of it under trees looking for my ball.
The funny tee sounds like a wonderful idea, we're forever hunting for someone's tee that's flown. We've managed to find some that don't fly too far though. I know all too well about crawling around in undignified positions under/in trees!!! I'll swear that trees and bushes have a kind of vacuum effect, they all suck in any ball that goes in their general direction.
@golftragic I just did an image search and it's not exact, but here's the one that came closest to mine: KOVISS Original Flexible Magnet Tumbling GOLF TEES 78mm 3pcs set TT155. I found it on Amazon and on eBay.
Sounds like a fun tee ... I know the feeling of being able to find the sand and the trees before the fairway! Although on Saturday it was my putting which let me down ... big time! On one hole - a par 5 - I was sitting just in front of the green in 2. How could I mess that up? I was looking at a birdie, surely?! Eh, well, no, I managed to get an 8! 5 putts! It's a humbling sport, that's for sure! Great fun though.
Ha ha, great story! I am with Mark Twain: golf is a good walk ruined! But then in truth I have never actually held a golf club, so maybe one day I should!
@casablanca My feeling about golf is it is fun most of the time, usually very humbling. And a perfect illustration of the power of intermittent reinforcement!
I don't have the determination for golf, reminds me too much of my lack of sporting prowess at school. It does look as though - from your description - the ball ended up in a pretty difficult place. The clouds in the back of the photo look quite painterly, where as the tee-off spot is most fearfully telling of the challenge ahead.
My dad loved golfing. I enjoyed going to several tournaments with him. But actually whacking the ball over the place and then trying to find it held little interest for me! My sister Diana ended up being the golfer but I was the one who got to see some of the greats play. Sounds like you had a fun day in spite of the trees and rough tee.
