It has been a crazy week of renters finally leaving and renovation starting. The kitchen and powder room was removed and donated to a nonprofit that builds homes for the needy. We had multiple meetings for final planning with kitchen design team, final decisions on cabinet finishes, countertops, backsplashes, tiles, etc. This image is after cleanup #1 but before the flooring was all removed. It's now down to the 'bones.' Very exciting! We're heading back to Beaver Island for a few weeks and return next for decisions about the powder room, paint, and blinds. Anticipated move in sometime toward the end of September or early October -- SO exciting!
I see you in the window! :) The renters are finally gone. It reminds me of the "Wizard of Oz," Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. "You have no power here. Now, begone... before someone drops a house on you!"
Too bad I can't send you the best tiler in the world to add a touch of perfection to you tile work (o; and give me a reason to visit Chicago- haha. I'm sure it's going to look great when it's all done!
@rosiekerr@jyokota I hadn't even noticed my reflection -- it looks like I'm standing outside above the city! Wonder if this can be replicated in an actually interesting composition???
Renovations are always exciting at the start of the project! Are you working with a design company? Lucky for you that you don't have to live there during construction.
@redy4et so glad we aren't living there during construction and I bet they are as well. We are working with Newport Design Group and they've been amazing! I could not have designed this on my own!
This is so exciting to see Taffy! Thank god "they" have gone! Finally! Wow what a view and I love you floating over it! Come October when you will definitely be living there I think you won't want to go anywhere for quite some time! I can't wait to see all your choices for the kitchen and powder room!
How exciting for you. I am sure by the time you finally move in you won't want to move again for quite some time. I do hope that this will be your forever home.
How could you not be excited, pleasure deferred is twice as sweet, and you've sure been waiting for what seems like eons. Look forward to seeing progress shots.
@onewing We are definitely planning for this to be our forever home! We've waited a long time for it, and with the renovation, we're able to make it look exactly as we want (we hope, anyway!). It is really exciting! Thanks as always for your visit/comment.
@golftragic We're heading back on the 20th, and there may be (should be) new floors by then. And some paint options on the walls. It was wonderful to see how well the progress went in the first week - we have a great group working on it, and they show a lot of teamwork.
@taffy Sounds just wonderful. I'd love to see your eyrie, but sounds like you're not there in the winter. Les is busting to do the Canada/Alaska trip, one that I'm only moderately interested in. But if we could stay on, fly east and catch up with you and Junko I could be tempted. Not till 2019 though, committed till then, Burma/Singapore this December, The Ghan train trip (Adelaide to Darwin) 2018 while the bank account regains health, then --- who knows? I'm 75 and the travel insurance thing is a bit of a chore now, once OBE it's very tough.
@golftragic The US has some spectacular places and while I know the gun violence is very off-putting (not to mention horrific and embarrassing as a country), you would be safe where you would be traveling. Closer to the time, if you were to visit, I'm sure something could be worked out!
good luck with all the renovations
